Titan Formula 100 Series - Final Series Points

The Titan Formula 100 series concluded at the City of Melbourne Titles last weekend. Hayden McBride (Gillard) won the race, but second was Geelong's Daniel Richert (Kosmic), earning more than enough points to seal the Light division championship ahead of Aaron Ivermee (Arrow) and Zeke Edwards (Kosmos).

Despite running Light at the final round, Dominic Albanese (One Kart) wrapped up the Heavy division, while Bobby Bourke (Kosmos) took out Over 40s

Sarron Caddy - Going Places Fast

Seventee-year old Sarron Caddy finished a remarkable 2nd in the first round of the Formula 100 Titan series at Oakleigh. Coming off grid 22 in an action packed and frenetic race, Sarron showed amazing speed and common sense to get back to second place, driving in what was just his second Formula 100 race.

What made this even more remarkable was that only hours earlier Sarron was involved in a sickening hide speed mutiple roll-over in the pre-final of Clubman Light. Through no fault of his own Sarron and his kart were launched into the air at the start finish line on the main staight. What occurred next horrified many onlookers as Sarron's leg was stuck in the kart as it barrel-rolled sideways and front ways several times.

Most believed that Sarron would have been seriously hurt as he lay on the infield grass for several minutes, unable to move. After being taken to the medical room Sarron, courageously turned up on the grid shortly after for the Formula 100 pre-final ready to race, his determination undeniable.

Race officials deemed that he may still be suffering side effects from the crash and removed him from the grid, much to Sarron's disapointment.

What followed in the Formula 100 final was an inspired drive from rear of grid to second place.

Sarron has continued to impress throughout the Titan Series including setting the fastest lap of the star studded final of round three at the Geelong Winter Cup. Keep your eye on this young man in upcoming races of Formula 100 and Clubman Light. The future looks bright for young Sarron!

F100 Titan Series Continues In '08

The 2008 Formula 100 Titan Series looks set to expand again with what looks like to be a tremendous and talented field of drivers ready to contest round one at the Oakleight Kart Club on April 5/6.

Once again there are some fantastic prizes to be won. Two AX9 Arrow B-Max chassis will be won in the Light and Heavy divisions. A Formula 100 engine will be up for grabs for the fastest over 40's competitor.

The Formula 100 Light catergory will be sponsored by long time karting supporter Pettaras Press, Formula 100 Heavy will be sponsored by Transwest Insurance and the Over 40's division will be sponsored by Remo Racing.

All rounds of the series will include timed qualifying and the pole position winner will be awarded a set of tyres thanks to sponsor Mr Sandblaster. Geelong Extreme Karts will once again continue as a sponsor of the series in 2008.

A good indication of the popularity of Formula 100 in 2008 was shown at Geelong's February club day races. Sixteen karts gridded up for heat one and, in fact, Formula 100 was the largest class at the meeting!

Persons wishing to find information on the 2008 series simplly need to ring Dom Albanese on 0425 707 525.

Regular updates will be announced on KartSportNews and on this F100 page.

News For 2008

The build up for the 2008 Titan Series has begun and already it appears that the Formula 100 Super Series will continue and expand next year.

With a significant number of engine sales (many from overseas) the number of competitors is assured to grow yet again. Series organiser Dominic Albanese, from Geelong Extreme Karts, has confirmed sponsorship from a number of organizations (to be named in due course) as well as confirmation of a five round series for '08. Four rounds will be held in Victoria plus one in NSW - a first for the Titan series.

At this time the first three series dates are confirmed and listed below. All rounds will include qualifying and a good number of laps. "Full series details will be published shortly but you can rest assured that once again significant prizes will be given to the winner of three categories including F100 Light, Heavy and Over 40's" Albanese informed KartSportNews. "This format was very successful in 2007 and will continue. Whilst other series and categories appear a little shaky, the Titan series continues to offer 'rock solid' racing and series co-ordination. Its fifth year of operation in 2008 be even better than previous years."

The following race dates are confirmed for the Titan Series 2008.

  • Round 1 - April 5/6 Oakleigh Kart Racing Club (All Star Series R1)
  • Round 2 - May 3/4 Go Kart Club of Victoria (All Star Series R2)
  • Round 3 - May 31/June 1 Geelong Kart Club (Winter Cup, All Star Series R3)
  • Round 4 - TBA (VIC)
  • Round 5 - TBA (NSW)

In addition, the Formula 100 Nationals will be conducted at Geelong on November 14/15/16.

For the NSW round a semi trailer will be organised at a super cheap price for the Victorian competitors. Further details TBA.

Other points of interest for Formula 100:

  • Formula 100 will race at the Victorian Open in Feb 2008 at Geelong
  • Formula 100 to race at major meetings such as City of Melbourne Titles, Victorian Closed Titles
  • Get ready to race the Tasmanian Open in October 2008 as negotiations are under way for the beasts to return to the Apple Isle
  • Geelong Kart Club to offer an engine to the winner of the 2008 Club Day championship in the F100 class
  • New engines and factory 06/07 engines are available for purchase from F100 specialist dealers such as Geelong Extreme Karts, City Karts, J&A Tuning, Kartbay etc

Dont believe the people that tell lies about the class. Parts for every type of engine are readily available and will continue to be for years to come. "My recent trip to Italy confirmed that 100cc engines are alive and well with three out of the eight classes at the world famous Lonato circuit running reed valve 100cc engines" Albanses said. "The reliability of the modern F100 watercooled engines has been remarkable with engine life very similar to a Leopard engine. No clutch or starter motors makes for simple, cost effective racing."

Peter's Titan Prize

Peter Klein was a deserving winner of the inaugural Formula 100 Titan Series Over 40's division.

He collected a brand new Leopard 125 motor compliments of Remo Racing for his troubles, a great reward for all his hard efforts. He was always super fast throughout the series and had a hard struggle to the end with fellow over 40's competitors, namely Robert Bourke who took the challenge to Klein right to the end of the series. The two drivers battled wheel to wheel in the final race, Klein eventually getting the win by the narrowest of margins.

You have to respect guys in this age bracket who tackle the 100cc monsters. Dont take it easy though Peter, word has it that there are quite a few over 40's guys looking at taking the prize in 2008!

Peter would like to thank Tony Kart for a great chassis, Extreme Engines by Wizzer for his engines and Dom Albanese from Extreme Karts for all his assistance throughout the year

Simon's Titan Prize

Simon Salvatico was a deserving winner of the 2007 Formula 100 Titan Series. Recently the 2007 champion picked up the prize for his efforts - a brand new Arrow CIK chassis.

All season long Salvatico proved his pace and consistency aboard his immaculately presented Tony Kart / Parilla package. However, he didn't have it all his own way with various challenges by an increasingly strong group of drivers intent on bringing him back to the field.

It all came down to the final round with Trent James starting the event only 200-odd points behind. Simon's speed and consistency were never in doubt and he went on to finish the final round in second outright and take a hard fought series win.

As he collected his new Arrow chassis, Salvatico wanted to thank Tony Kart Australia, J&A Tuning, Orrcon and Traditional Steel Pickets for their help during the season.

Daniel Gets The Heavy Prize

Daniel Richert was a deserving winner of the 2007 Titan Series Heavy Division. He was simply outstanding all series, consistently qualifying and racing at the pointy end of the light field and setting times that left his competitors scratching their heads.

The 27 year old fitter and turner has a long history of karting success including representing Australia at the World Cup at Suzuka in Japan in the late nineties. His motorsport talents are many, including being the current series leader in the national Commodore Cup championship where he has a sponsored drive with Axcent Racing.

Above: Daniel Richert with his new Arrow AX9 CIK chassis prize for winning F100 Heavy in the 2007 Titan Series.

It all came down to the final of the City of Melbourne Titles where Richert started at the rear of field, passing karts one lap at a time to finish in fifth outright and win the Heavy division on the day.

Danny would like to thank Dom Albanese from Geelong Extreme Karts for his assistance throughout the year, Chris Stern from CS Air-conditioning Services and DPE for the great Arrow chassis.

Richert has the heart of a true racer and cant wait for the 2008 series where he is undecided about which category he will contest. Well done Danny and good luck with that new kart!

Points With 1 Round To Go

With one round remaining, Simon Salvatico holds a small but handy 262 point lead over Trent James in the Titan Formula 100 Series.

"All three major prizes will come down to the wire at the City of Melbourne Titles" series organiser Dominic Albanese informed KartSportNews. "It should be fantastic with drivers knowing exactly who they have to beat to collect one of two new B-Max karts and a new Leopard engine for Over 40's."

Despite not actually driving at the final round at Oakleigh recently, Trent James has captured the 2006 Formula 100 Titan Series.

With strong results all year, plus a podium by substitute driver Adam Klunyk at the last round, James enjoyed a healthy points buffer over Dominic Albanese. Robert Bourke was third, a comendable job considering he was competing in the heavy division of the series.
