Continuing on the Australian Karting Association’s philosophy of supporting the return of the CIK Championship to Australian circuits the National Karting Council has provided extra resources to ensure the 2008 championship is a success.

Joining the current organising committee (the International Karting Council) are karting identities, and current members of the National Karting Council, Bob Gallagher, Simon Whiting and Pam Arnett.

Gallagher and Whiting will become the ‘front men’ for the series while working with the current members of the IKC Ralph Van Doorn, John McCleverty and Gary Light. Arnett’s role will be more in the form of an event co-ordinator to liase with the host clubs, co-ordinate entry documentation and associated materials.

“There is no doubt that the return of the Australian CIK Championship is the most exciting things that will happen in karting for the past five years and I look forward to working with the competitors, industry and host clubs to ensure it is a success,” said Gallagher.

“One of the key ingredients to a successful series is communication between us, the organisers, and the competitors and industry which is something I’ve been working hard on recently.

“Over the past couple of weeks there has been a lot of positive talk around the place with a number of key members of industry indicating their support for the series. At this stage we are likely to start with a field of between 20 and 24 drivers for the opening round of the series at Ipswich in May.”

It is understood many of the teams have drivers to fill the allocated spots in their line-ups but a number of opportunities still exist for interested drivers to join as a part of the series.

With this in mind it is recommended for interested drivers to contact any of the manufacturers/importers/team representatives who have expressed their interest in entering a team in the series.
