Great Start To Speedway Season

press release

The Great 2008 season for the New South Wales Speedway Kart Club started off last Sunday (February 24) at the superb Nepean Motorsports complex and with over 70 entires the day certainly produced sensational racing action.

The day saw many first time racers hitting the track and with some gleaming looking machines bathed in brilliant sunshine, all divisions produced some hard and fast racing.

In the KT Open Heavy’s Craig Banks was the dominant racer winning two heats, the feature and the overall points. It was only lady racer Shane Orre who won the opening heat that stopped Craig Banks clean sweeping the day.

The Midget division saw Corey Foyle continuing his top form from last year winning two heats as well as the overall points tally, but the feature win plus the first heat was taken out by Kyle Angel.

It was a strong 12 kart field in the Rookie’s with the heat victories going to Nathan Camilleri, Sean Richards and Regan Angel. Angel also won the feature race. Sean Richards was consistent all day and was the round winner.

The Clubman Lights boasted a very healthy 20 kart field and was broken up into two groups. Heats wins were shared by Nathan Bailey, David Hopping and Natalie Genner in the first group while Martin Sedmak and Brent Coghlan (2 wins) were the winners in the second 10 kart group. The feature race winners were Nathan Bailey and Matt Martin while the overall round winner from both groups was Brent Coghlan.

Joel Goff, after winning two heats, emerged as the round winner in the KT Open Light division. Alana Baines, after winning heat 2, took out a fine victory in the feature.

The Juniors, with 15 nominations, saw some sensational racing> Heat wins went to Michael Jordan (2 wins) and Jason Beattie. Christopher Deighton took out the feature race while 2007 NSWSKC Club Champion Michael Jordan was named as the round winner.

It was a small and very competitive field in the 0-100 class but the division was dominated by David Hopping who proved to be too quick in winning all three heats, the feature and the overall round points tally. Having his first run in the 0-100’s was Matt Goff who was impressive in finishing second overall to David Hopping.
