Mad Max To Race Rotax Masters

press release

Watch out drivers of the FWT, "Mad" Max Papis is joining the driver line-up! Max Papis Racing with Fittipaldi announced today that team owner, Max Papis, will participate in the last round of the FWT in the Rotax Master class in Ocala, FL on the weekend of March 7-9.

He will join team drivers Pietro Fittipaldi da Cruz, Fabio Orsolon, Carlos de Quesada, and brothers, Nicolas and Michael de Quesada.

Driver of the No. 64 Atreus Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS in NASCAR Nationwide Series road course events for Rusty Wallace Inc., Max Papis is no stranger to karts; he started his racing career at the age of 11, in karts in Italy, driving in the Junior Class. For five years he drove for the Italian National Karting team, competed in two World Championship events and three European Championship races. In 1987 he captured the prestigious Intercontinental Championship race in the Hong Kong streets over the likes of Alex Zanardi and Michael Schumacher. That same year he won the pole in the European Karting Championship. Max was paired up with world champion engine tuner and "coach", Diego Mombelli, who had previously taken care of Ayrton Senna and Giancarlo Fisichella. "Those were great years in my life. I learned so much. That is how I got the "base" for my racing career. I was driving against champions like Michael Schumacher, David Coulthard, Jan Magnussen, Alex Zanardi and Christian Fittipaldi to name a few. It was very competitive," commented Max.

Also driver of the No. 4 Chevrolet Corvette C6-R for the endurance races in the American Le Mans Series, Max will actually be heading to Sebring, FL after the FWT weekend for the historical Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, which he won the past two years in the Corvette. "Driving in the FWT event will be a great way for me to prepare for the 12 Hours of Sebring. Karts are very physically demanding and your reaction time has to be very fast," stated Max.

Max added, "This will be a very important weekend for the team as Pietro and Fabio will be fighting for the championship in their respective classes. I hope that me being there will help support and motivate them for what we expect will be a great weekend. I'm really proud of where the team is and how far we have come. It's a great honor to be driving for my team! I've always challenged myself by driving in many different series and this weekend will be no different; I will give my 110%."
