Vic Open Rotax Results Confirmed

A tribunal hearing on Tuesday night has confirmed Troy Woolston and Daniel Rochford as first and second placings at the 2008 Victorian Open in the Rotax Light class - just as they had crossed the line on the day.

After an early challenge from NSW's Tom Williamson, Troy and Daniel finished a commanding first and second in the Rotax Light class, but were disqualified for alleged engine irregularities. Both drivers immediately lodged an appeal, which was upheld at the recent tribunal hearing in Melbourne.

“It's a welcome decision" said Peter Cathcart from CC Racing who is the builder of the engines. “CC Racing has never had an engine irregularity - ever. So I am very pleased that our reputation remains intact. Its just so frustrating when you know that you have done nothing wrong.”

“Anyway, I really want to congratulate Troy and Daniel for a great effort" Cathcart continued. "They both drove new Intrepid karts, and Daniel had just returned from a great effort at the Rotax World Championships. It's just a shame that they didn’t get to enjoy the celebrations, that they deserved, on the day".

“Yeah, its been an up and down feeling”, said Woolston. “You win, with a one two finish for CC Racing, then it's taken away. Anyway, I am pleased that the appeal system works and justice was done.”

Daniel Rochford was racing with a new sponsor on board (Ciccone Constructions) and was disappointed that he couldn’t thank them from the podium. When asked about his feelings, Daniel said, "It's mainly your reputation that you worry about. At least now everyone one knows that we won on our merits”.
