Three Top 5s For Cameron Motorsports

The Cameron Motorsports (CMI) elite karting team had another successful weekend in Florida as the squad competed in the opening round of the Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by IndyCar Series. With the first event taking place at the Ocala Gran Prix facility in Ocala, Florida, CMI drivers were looking to start their national title chase off right.

Leading the charge were Intercontinental C (ICC) pilots Mike Vincec and Cody Jolly. After progressing nicely through the heat races, Vincec would claim CMI’s first podium in 2008 Stars of Karting competition with a solid third place result. Proving it was no fluke, Vincec continued his success in final two as he claimed another top five result to wrap up his weekend. Texan pilot Cody Jolly had some problems in final one but still managed to secure a solid seventh place finish against North America’s best shifter pilots. Improving in final two, Jolly battled the weather and wet conditions to score his first podium result as he crossed the strip in the third position.

Ohio pilot David Carmendy was looking for two top ten results but fell just short on this weekend. After a disappointing non-finish in final one, Carmendy turned up the wick in final two and claimed the 11th position. Carmendy will be back with the CMI team at the New Castle Motorsports Park event in late May where he has always been fast and should challenge for the win. (You say he fell short of two top tens, but he didn’t get any!)

The Junior Intercontinental A (JICA) pilot and reigning F1K Junior Canadian National Champion was successful in his first start in national competition. Competing against national champions, race winners and some of the country’s best is challenging but Canadian Jeffery May rose to the challenge. May qualified his CRG in the 13th position just over .200 off the pole. After being punted off in the first two heat races, May battled hard in heat race three to score a solid tenth place result. Due to not finishing two heat races, May was forced to start way down the running order for both feature events. With very little experience in the rain, May had an early departure from final one as an incident in front of him left him no chance to avoid it. In final two, May was progressing through the field nicely and was running in P13 before a spin relegated him down to a 17th place result.

Cadet pilot Kurtis De Boer garnered a 27th and 23rd place results in only his fourth national event. The young Canadian has proven to be fast and can fight with some of the top Cadet drivers. De Boer will take some time to complete an intensive test program before the next event.

“We had some good results but were hoping for more,” explained Cameron Motorsports Danielle Duffy. “Nobody goes to a race hoping to finish tenth, everyone wants to win. We will be back at the next event bigger and better and I am confident we will be atop the podium.”

Cameron Motorsports will enjoy little time off as the team travels across country to the Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah to compete in the Stars of Karting West division opener in two weeks time.
