Rotax News - Official Update #8

Lots of new things are happening with Rotax all the time so I just thought it would be important to give you all a brief update on as many points as possible so that you are well informed.

ROTAX NATIONALS
Rotax Nationals will be at VACC Park Todd Rd track located within minutes of the Melbourne CBD. The event will be telecast on Fox Sports. The event will run Friday 5th September until Sunday the 7th of September. Practice on the Friday will only be for Formula JMA, Rotax Light and Rotax Heavy. The remainder of support classes will just compete on the Saturday/Sunday to make it more cost effective for competitors. The support classes will be announced within a few days.

IKD is currently planning a Saturday night entertainment program which you will not want to miss. Live entertainment, food and lots of prizes will make for a memorable occasion.

The Rotax Nationals earns maximum points available for the National Rotax Ranking so overall this event will be one you should not miss.

NATIONAL ROTAX RANKING
The National Ranking system we announced has received so much positive response. I thought it was a great idea and obviously a lot of competitors see merit in the idea as well… thanks for the positive feedback on this matter.

For those of you who are not fully aware of how it works here is an update:-
Events will be held all over Australia that will be sanctioned by IKD as point scoring events towards the ranking. IKD will then take the results from these meetings to tabulate and publish the Rankings. There will be a ranking for Formula Rotax Light, Formula Rotax Heavy and Formula JMA (Junior Max).

Each persons highest 6 rounds will count towards their ranking in 2008. Events are weighted according to number of entries and also State and National Championships earn more points than other race meetings.

Apart from the rankings themselves being important, the rankings will be used at times to offer prizes and to decide who goes to the all important Rotax World Final.

Advantages of this system are:-

  • Gives Australian Rotax drivers their best and fairest chance ever of competing at the Rotax World Final regardless of what state they are from
  • Competitors are not locked into a particular series with fixed dates. If a competitor has a wedding or a family holiday planned, it is no problem because the system allows for it
  • Competitors can race interstate if they choose but only a particular number of events can count towards their ranking. So the winner will not be the person who simply competes in more race meetings.
  • Provides incentive for competitors to race in order to improve and/or protect their ranking
  • Provides incentive for new competitors when they see their name in the rankings for the first time

IKD is about to publish the first ranking list, obviously at the moment the list is not totally meaningful as there has only been a few events but over time it will take shape.
