2 Out Of 2 For NZ Pothole Drivers

press release

Chris Cox NZ1 and Jesse Craig NZ2, both sponsored by The Pothole People and Apex Karting Ltd, returned from the New Zealand Nationals with their yellow plates two weeks ago and raced again to success in the junior classes at the Christchurch Kart Club, 2008 Club Championships.  The championships were contested over two rounds using 4 heat pre-determined grid draws and a final for each round, with the best 9 races counting for the final result.

The Formula Junior class contested on Saturday saw some of the closest racing of the weekend with Jesse winning the first few races and subsequently ‘day 1’ with 2 wins out of 5 and Chris struggling with kart set up and failing to start one of the races saw him lying in 3rd place.  ‘Day 2’, was contested in the afternoon and saw Chris fight back during the heats placing him in the lead for day 2 and putting them equal on points for the championship going into the final.  An impressive drive by both drivers saw Chris take 1st and Jesse 3rd making Chris the overall winner of the Title with only a 2 point margin from Jesse who took out second place overall.

On Sunday the Junior Yamaha field was larger and with the races only being 6 laps it was a challenge to get through the pack when starting at the back of the grid.  ‘Day 1’ saw Chris win 3 of the 4 heats and the final with Jesse being the only other driver to take out a win.  Chris’s run continued on ‘day 2’ where he also had 3 wins out of 4 in the heats and won the final.  Again Jesse was the only other driver to post a win.  The overall result saw Chris win the title on 11 points with Jesse in 2nd on 25 points.   Chris would also like to thank his other sponsors; Rangiora Hire and Supreme Engines / Supreme Kart Supplies.

Both Chris and Jesse took part at the Young Guns event at Lismore, Australia last year finishing 3rd and 4th respectively; they both would like to race in Australia again in the near future.   Meanwhile, Sebastian Tolson has just returned to Australia after competing at the New Zealand Nationals supported by Apex Karting, finishing 7th in what was a highly competitive Senior Yamaha Light field.
