2 From 2 For Morcom's PSC Effort

Teenager Nathan Morcom has made a perfect start to the 2008 Premier State Cup by dominating the opening two rounds of the Junior National Heavy class.

After two completed rounds, which have been held at Oran Park Raceway in March and Lithgow Kart Raceway in late April, Morcom holds down a comfortable lead in the Premier State Cup Series in the Junior National Heavy class and looks on track to claim his very first Premier State Cup Series success.

“I was unlucky to miss out on winning the Premier State Cup in the Junior Heavy class last year due to injury [a broken collarbone suffered in a crash at Oran Park Raceway], and I have made a great start in the Junior National Heavy class and have taken out the opening two rounds, so I couldn’t ask for anything better” Morcom said.

“With the Premier State Cup Series being four rounds there are still two rounds that remain, so the aim for the remainder of the series is to continue my run of success, but also realise that the series win is there for the taking, so I’m not going to be taking any unnecessary risks, as I want to win the series first and foremost.”

Aside from competing in the Junior National Heavy class of the Premier State Cup Series, Morcom is this year running in the Junior Clubman class. In the opening two rounds Morcom finished sixth in the opening round at Oran Park Raceway after being forced to start the final from the rear of the grid due to suffering a DNF in the pre final while he battled for third place. In the 2nd round at Lithgow the 16-year-old finished in second place narrowly missing at second victory.

For this year Morcom has stepped into the Formula Ford ranks and is currently running his debut year in the NSW Championship with the Sydney based Anglo Australian Motorsport team, after winding down his Go-Kart program to only State Titles and the Premier State Cup Series for the rest of 2008.

“Although Formula Ford is my main focus for this year I want to continue running the Go Karts just to keep up my race fitness and to just race in general, as there is not as much racing in Formula Ford as there is for Go Karting,” commented Morcom. “I have enjoyed my time in Formula Ford so far this year and the aim for my first year is to just learn the ropes and move closer to the pointy end of the field as the year progresses.”

The second round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship is to be held on May 24 and 25 at Eastern Creek Raceway, while the third round of the Premier State Cup Series will be fought out at Mt. Sugarloaf Kart Raceway in Newcastle on July 12 and 13.

Morcom would like to thank his 2008 supporters: Lafarge PlastaMasta Smithfield, Rondo Building Services, NSW Stretch Ceilings, Tim Craig from TopKart and Kart 1, Troy Farley from Hurst Race Engines, and his father Barry for all his efforts.
