Gosford King of the Dirt Twilight

press release

Hosted by Central Coast Speedway Kart Club on Saturday 24th May 2008 at Gosford Kart Speedway, Gosford Showground.

What an awesome race meeting! The weather was fantastic, there were over 80 karts in attendance, the track held up well all day/night, and some great racing in all classes produced quite a few new faces on the podium!

Thanks again to Alan Hann of Coastal Skips to help organise and promote the event … the winners were most impressed with the fantastic glass etched trophies they received! All drivers also received a one-off commemorative medallion that were also unique and well received.

In Clubman Over 40’s some great action developed in almost every race. In the first heat, the winner came from nowhere in the final turn, due to a kart being lapped. With a mixed bag of winners in the heats, and then the first 3 karts in the feature trading places for most of the race, Stuart Bond came out on top, followed by Dave Taylor and Steve Rhind.

In the Midgets, Luke Sayre and Corey Foyle were the stand-out drivers in the heats, however a hard charging John Gillespie took it up to them in the Final, ending up in 2nd place, with Luke Sayre first and Corey Foyle third.

Clubman Lights (or aptly named Coghlan Lights) had 4 of the family entered and 2 ended up taking home trophies. There were quite a few drivers who had trouble finishing races, but Matthew Goff ended up taking the title, after high place finishes in all his heats. He was followed home by Brent and Cameron Coghlan, with Stephen just behind in 4th place.

In the Rookies, it was a mixed affair for heat wins and places. Jake Baines took out one heat win, however, Sean Richards improved over each race, and eventually took the crown, followed by Daniel Sayre and Nikki Briton.

The Clubman Heavy class was fully subscribed, and the heats split in two, due to the large number of P platers entered. This didn’t stop action aplenty in many of the races, and in the combined feature race, the major red flag incident of the day occurred, when Steven O’Meley collided with another kart, causing what was a suspected back injury. However, he was given the all clear from the hospital later that night, and simply wanted to know when he could get his kart fixed and go racing again ! There’s a true speedway driver ! Gary Slarke ended up the King after the race was restarted, followed by Matthew Bond and Daniel Selmes.

In the Juniors, Bradley Giffen and Michael Jordan were most consistent in the heats, and took out 1st and 2nd respectively in the Final. Jason Beattie stormed home to take 3rd place, after languishing in the second half of the field all day !

Our KT modified class continues to grow each meeting, and another new entrant, Kris Maastricht, took out two heat wins and 2nd place in the final, driving a new Kaos he completed building the night before. Michael Gibbs eventually took out first place in the final, after following Kris for half the race. Matthew Bond took third and had no answer for these two on the day !
