Screaming Talent and H Power pilot Spencer Pigot scored a heat race victory and ran at the front of the field in his first event aboard a Gillard chassis. Along with running at the front of the field, the SunTrust Youth Racing Program driver turned the quickest lap time in the second final.

“Spencer ran extremely well and we are excited with his progress in our first weekend,” stated Screaming Talent’s Jay Howard. “We really believe in Spencer and his abilities and he proved that this weekend as he battled at the front of the field.”

Making the switch to Gillard in late May, Pigot completed a test in Texas before traveling to the New Castle Motorsports Park facility in New Castle, Indiana. Competing in the ultra competitive Junior Intercontinental A (JICA) field, Spencer had a good qualifying session and would start his H Power Gillard chassis on the second row of the grid for the first of two heat races.

Heat one went well for the Floridian pilot as Pigot drove to the front of the field and took the victory. Looking to repeat his success in heat two, Spencer had a rare engine problem when a wheel nut was sucked through his airbox and into the powerplant destroying the motor. The crew worked feverishly to see if they could fix the problem, but to no avail as Pigot was unable to start the race and forced to take a 28th place result.

Adding up points from the heat races, Pigot would start both finals from the 19th position. Mid-field is the worst place to start at one of the biggest races of the year and Pigot learned that as he entered the first set of corners. Trouble would happen right in front of him and he was forced to try and take evasive action. Unfortunately, he would be involved in the incident and relegated to the tail of the field with damage to his kart. With a never give up attitude, Spencer would work hard and keep going but with the kart handling terribly due to substantially damage to the steering column, spindle and tie rod he could only manage a 26th place finish.

Final two went a little better for Pigot as he advanced his way into the top ten. Chasing down the lead group he was running in the eighth position when his rear bumper began to fall off as a direct result from contact that was endured during the opening laps. Due to the safety concerns caused by the bumper Spencer was shown the black flag and forced to retire from the race but not before setting the fastest race lap, a full 4/10th’s faster than the winner.

“Obviously I am disappointed with the way things went this weekend” explained Pigot after the event “but we are coming together as a team and it’s a great feeling to be fast and running at the front. I am looking forward to the rest of the year as I know we can be a threat for victory at every race.” 

Also running under the Screaming Talent tent was TaG Intercontinental C drivers Tyler Spitler and Nick Boulle as well as TaG competitors Juan Pablo Delgado and Evan Batt.
