Fine Karting Traditions

from Eye Spy

There was a weekly tradition in Sydney that spanned some thirty years.

It was dinner on a Thursday night at La Botte D'or in Marion Street, Leichhardt. At that table you would find Colin Hurst, John Pasquale, Peter Dell, Franco, Phil Bonvino, Tim Craig, Barry Beckman and so many visitors over the years including many overseas luminaries.

This fine tradition has all but ended and many readers will never have heard these names, but I am pleased to note that a new tradition may be starting in Sydney.

Mark Canto, who is Dean Canto's brother (and at least you must have heard of Dean) has opened a great little Italian restaurant and Pizzeria in Westleigh. Eye spyed an interesting table the other night which included Geoff and Marianne Briscoe (father of Ryan of Penske/IRL fame), Rocky and Anna Canto (well, they are related but Dean Canto is one of our most popular V8 touring car drivers) and Peter and Helen Meyer (parents of long time and very well know CRG karters Damien and Simon Meyer).

There was a lot of motorsport talk and this could easily become a regular eating spot for Sydney karters as the food is great and this is a great location for the Sydney motor sport fraternity. The restaurant is on Duffy Ave in the Westleigh shopping centre and it has all the makings of a new Sydney tradition.

You might even spot Eye-Spy lurking in the corner.
