Morcom Scores Premier State Cup Hat Trick

press release

So far this year in the Premier State Cup Nathan Morcom has been very successful in the Junior National Heavy class, and he continued his reign in the class by taking out round three over the weekend at Mt. Sugarloaf Kart Raceway, near Newcastle in NSW.

For Morcom from three rounds of the Premier State Cup he has taken out all three round wins, and his latest round victory came after he blitzed the field in both his heat races and then went on to take a dominant victory in the final.

With the exception of his second place in the pre final and also qualifying in second place, the 16-year-old couldn’t have hoped for a better performance.

“I had a good run and to come away with a hat trick of round wins in the Junior National Heavy class is certainly a feat I’m very proud of,” expressed Morcom, who currently holds down a comfortable lead in the series point standings.

“With my Formula Ford commitments I don’t get a lot of time to concentrate on Go Karting, but it’s good to be able to juggle my commitments and still prove successful as it is also very satisfying.”

Although very successful in the Junior National Heavy class, Morcom wasn’t able to duplicate that performance in the Junior Clubman class and failed to finish the pre-final due to dropping a chain while placed inside the Top 10 at the time. Over the heat races and the final, Morcom was quick and was a chance of finishing on the podium, but on the positive side he still remains within the Top 5 of the series point standings for the Junior Clubman class.

The fourth round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship is to be held on July 26 - 27 at Oran Park Raceway, while the fourth and final round of the Premier State Cup Series will be fought out at Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway on November 1 - 2.

Morcom would like to thank his 2008 supporters: Lafarge PlastaMasta Smithfield – Campbelltown - Canberra, Rondo Building Services, NSW Stretch Ceilings, Tim Craig from TopKart and Kart 1, Troy Farley from Hurst Race Engines, and his father Barry for all his efforts
