Day's Night Ruined With Prang

press release

So far this year in the Saturday Night Go Kart Series, Lee Day has been a dominant figure in the Clubman class, but on Saturday night (August 30) at Wollongong City Raceway for round seven his run came to an abrupt end when he was involved in an opening lap crash during the final.

After winning all three heat races Day went into the Clubman class final as the highest point scorer and therefore started from pole position. On the opening lap Day and seven other rivals were involved in a big crash that eliminated all of the drivers. The driver that benefited most from the opening lap crash was Darren Solomon who took out the 12-lap final ahead of Mathew Ferraro and Paul Treacy. Both Ferraro and Treacy had bad runs throughout their heat races, but they managed to score podium results when it mattered most... the final.

In the Midget / Rookies class the dominance of Joshua Buggy was clearly evident after he went through the round with an undefeated record that saw him take out qualifying, the thee heat races, and the all important final.

Other class winners during the seventh round of the Saturday Night Go Kart Series included: Justin Smith (Juniors), Simon Bonello (Senior J), Daniel Ball (TAG, Rotax, and Leopard), and Shane Tate (TAG Heavy and TAG Restricted).

The eighth round of the Saturday Night Go Kart Series is to be yet again held down at Wollongong City Raceway (Kembla Grange, South Coast of NSW) on Saturday night, September 27.
