Harvey Set To Shine In WSK Showdown

press release

Lincolnshire-based kart racer Jack Harvey will head to the Spanish circuit of Zuera next weekend with the sole intention of picking up the pan-European Winning Series of Karting title.

The Alpinestars-backed factory Birel Motorsport driver is just a single point behind the current KF2 series leader and with two points-scoring finals left to run for the 2008 season, Jack knows that only first class results will allow him to take his second major crown of the year.

“I’m heading out to Spain with the intention of winning,” he says. “I’ve been fighting hard all season in the WSK series and it’s come down to the very last round and just a single point as we go into it and I will be trying as hard as possible to be the one to step onto the top of the podium over the course of the weekend and take the title,” he added.

The Winning Series of Karting has been the 2007 European Champion’s main focus throughout the season. However, after picking up the CIK-FIA Asia Pacific crown earlier in the season, he has also been in the hunt for some of the other major one-off titles during the year, including a repeat of the European title and the recent World Cup event, both of which he missed out on.

However, despite not gathering as much silverware throughout the season as he did last year, Jack is still happy with his season and is completely focused on going for glory at the weekend.

“I’ve been concentrating on the WSK all year as it’s a measure over the full season and not just one event. Obviously the big titles are important and I’ve gone out at every one this year with the aim to go for victory. But, like all one-off meetings there’s an element of luck involved and I’ve certainly had my share over the course of the last few seasons!

“But there’s something about competing in a year-long campaign that shows that you’ve been someone to beat or fight hard against all season. It takes a big effort, not just from me but the whole team all year and I really want to go out to Zuera and win.”

In the run up to what will be one of Jack’s last big events of the 2008 season, both he and the Birel team have been working hard to make sure everything is as good as it can be, with everyone focused on the task in hand.

“I’ve been training hard and the team has been really good. We’ve been testing and everything has been going well so I’m in a very confident mood in the run up to the weekend. We had some bad luck at the World Cup meeting where we just couldn’t find the pace overall during the weekend and it meant we struggled. But I’m concentrating on each event as it comes, just as I have all season and I feel really good about what we can achieve in Spain. I can’t wait to get out there and get out on track,” he added.

Jack will take to the circuit on Thursday for free practice, before qualifying, the heats and the all-important finals which take place on Saturday and Sunday.
