Monarto Kart Track Is GO!

AKA press release

BOOST FOR SOUTH AUSTRALIAN KARTING WITH THE OPENING OF NEW MONARTO COMPLEX

For the first time in almost 30 years South Australian kart racers will revel in new surroundings when the Monarto Karting Complex near Murray Bridge hosts its inaugural race meeting next weekend (October 26).

The complex is the culmination of many years of hard work by members of the Dublin Go Kart Club and the Go Kart Club of South Australia, formerly located at Oakbank.

The Dublin Club's facility was closed down over 15 years ago due to the new highway in the region being developed through its property, while the Oakbank circuit - which was the scene of 2005 V8 Supercar Champion Russell Ingall’s first kart race - met a similar fate when the EPA forced its closure in 2000.

“Racing karts is where I started my career and tracks like the ones at Oakbank, Whyalla, Barossa and Bolivar were the scenes of some great memories during my karting career,” said Ingall.

“While it was a shame that the Oakbank and Dublin tracks were closed down I always say that with every ending there is a new beginning and I hope that this new track at Monarto can generate some great interest in the sport in South Australia.

“Although I’ve only seen a shot of the track layout from the air it seems to be very unique and should produce some really good racing. They tell me that there is a fair bit of elevation in the surface – which always makes it enjoyable.”

After the bitumen was laid last week, the finishing touches to the circuit will be completed this weekend prior to the complex’s maiden race meeting next Sunday.

South Australian karting stalwart and current President of the Australian Karting Association (SA), Ian Williams, believes the track will provide a welcome boost to the sport in the state.

“Karting in South Australia has been crying out for another top level circuit for a number of years and I’m delighted to see that the hard work by everyone involved has paid off in the way of a top class circuit at Monarto,” said Williams.

“I’m confident that the new circuit will provide a perfect training ground for tomorrow’s stars of motorsport while also allowing young drivers the opportunity to learn about car control and driving techniques well before they are old enough to get their road licence.

“Karting is the world’s most affordable form of motorsport and I look forward to people of all ages getting behind the wheel of a kart on the new track.”

Drivers will get their first opportunity to drive the circuit next Saturday (October 25) with the inaugural race meeting being conducted on Sunday October 26.

The Monarto Karting Complex is located on the Old Princess Highway at Monarto.
