The Reynolds Chase State Rookie Honours

press release

Cameron (aged 12) & Hayden Reynolds (aged 10) will be chasing an additional state title to add to their ever increasing list at the upcoming SA Championships.

Cameron, who has been racing only two years, has collected the 2008 SA Closed State Title, Barossa club championship, possibly the Southern club champion and narrowly missed out on becoming the Festival State Cup Champion in Rookies. With less than 12 months experience Cameron was able to finish 14th in the 2007 SA Open against much more experienced drivers and also come home as the top ranked local SA Rookie.

Hayden, who has 12 months less experience than Cameron, appears to be improving with every race outing. With less than 5 months race experience Hayden collected a fast finishing 4th, narrowly missing out on third, in the Closed State Titles held at Whyalla in May.

With his older brother generally out in front he is now the target which Hayden has been aiming for. In a recent meet at Monarto, Cameron & Hayden collectively won all four races and achieved three Reynolds brothers quinellas to take out a 1-2  finish for the meeting.

Their father realizes to improve at a faster rate there is a requirement to travel & compete inter-state and therefore has taken Cameron & Hayden to a number of Victorian Country rounds this year.Chasing competition, the boys have performed well with limited track exposure. Whilst the boys were desparate to attend & race at the Junior Classic Sprint @ Pucapunyl, the Reynolds crew fulfilled their other committments at an Athletic Sport Carnival on Friday, left from Gawler at 4.30pm, arrived 2.00am at Seymour, then participated in only two practise sessions Saturday morning before racing against some of the best Rookie drivers in Australia. Although the boys are continually learning & improving their race craft, so is their father with his mechanical exploits which has generally been detrimental to Cameron & Hayden's race results!

The crew's major achievement for 2008 has been their jugling act. Not only have Cameron & Hayden competed in Go-Karting throughout SA & Victoria this year, but Karate in SA & Victoria with Cameron, Hayden and their mother (Kylie) obtaining their black belts in 2007. Cameron is the current 2008 Under 16's SA Champion & Kylie recieving a bronze medal in the National's with all three under consideration to represent Australia in the 2009 World titles in Toyko. Their abilities also included performing very well for the Gawler Centrals F/C in the Under 11's & 13's when not racing or at a karate tourmenant and are well rehearsed musicians playing the guitar & drums.

When asked, Cameron says he has been happy with his 2008 results but disappointed with the amount of misfortune he has endured during the Festival State Cup rounds. Whilst able to win three of four races in a number of rounds, only to recieve an unfortunate dnf result in the remaining race and could only manage a third as his highest round result.

Hayden, who appears far more relaxed than Cameron about his racing, is happy to keep going around at this stage but continually chasing his desired podium finishes.

Cameron & Hayden are very appreciative of their support group/sponsors and would particularly like to thank Craig Denton of TD Racing for his assistance during the 2008 karting season as well as McDermott Flooring, GC&J Constructions, Alien Roofing, & Carpet Burners.

The boys have aspirations of furthering their careers in motor sport. Realizing the competition will be very tough, their initial desire is to achieve a top 5 result for Cameron and a top 10 result for Hayden in the approaching SA Open at Whyalla which will be the boys’ last race together. Although able to compete for another year in Rookies, Cameron will graduate to juniors prematurely in 2009 due to weight restriction within the class.
