Kashed Up Karting At Kalgoorlie

from Peter French

The races run and the kash won – what a fantastic weekend for the 118 entrants at the Eastern Goldfields Kart Track earlier this mont, Nov 8-9.

Special thanks must go to our many sponsors for helping us put on this meeting, one of the richest stand alone meetings in the country, thank you to all our volunteers, helpers and the committee, a great job well done.

Above: Deni Razmovski (43) leads karting returnee Hayden Patrizi (29), Ricky Carmody (15) and Simon Gwilliam (21) in the 125 Light class.

Prize money totalling $1,200.00 per class plus many spot prizes, the majority of those were fuel vouchers, they certainly helped with the distance people had to travel to get to Kalgoorlie.
Three club members did a fantastic job encouraging our sponsors to open their cheque books, so a big thank you must go to Peter Patrizi, Wayne Gough & Peter Allan - cheers guys!

The weather was excellent, the competition fierce and fair to say that all who attended had a great time. The format for the weekend was two heats during the day and one under lights on Saturday, 8 laps of the 986 circuit with two heats Sunday, 10 & 12 laps. Midgets & Rookies races were 4 x 8 laps and a final of 10 laps.

Twenty one marauding Midgets fronted the starter. These kids are great to watch and there was some sensational action across the weekend. Thomas Schou from Hurricane took the winners prize of $600, Jake Wright from Bunbury received $400 for second and Jake Kosteci from Tiger pocketed the $200 for third.

Twelve Rookies put on a good display of wheel to wheel racing and it was a family affair on the podium with brothers Josh & Nicholas Merritt from Bunbury second & third from and the newly crowned state champ Jesse Elliot taking out the round.

Lewis Sutherland, Tiger club ran in three classes over the weekend - JNL, JNH & Junior Clubman - and won the lot, 11 first places 4 second’s and also won the draw for a Gold Nugget donated by KCGM (super pit).

In JNH  it was Jake Dudley from Hurricane who drove very well for second place ahead of Daniel Chandler from the Tiger Kart Club. Jake was one of only three drivers to take a win ahead of Lewis over the weekend.

JNL had eleven starters and Tiger member & former state Rookie champ, Jake Klarich’s first drive in juniors just up from Rookies secured second place with 2 wins & Cody McLachlan from Hurricane also with one win in third place. Local drivers got into the action with Stephanie Bruce taking third place in the last race and a great drive mixing it with Jake & Lewis all the way.

Six Junior Clubman and a clean sweep for Lewis, Allira Patrizi from the home club with 4 second places earned her spot on the podium ahead of Midwest club member Brendan Hope also right up there and first time in a clubbie was Jordan Cameron.

In Clubman Light there were seven and the local hotshots were fighting it out. In the end it was a consistent Arron McGregor with 5 top three finishes on the top tier and pocketed the winners cash. John Bruce with three wins and a DNF, second, ahead of Nathen Davis from Geraldton’s Midwest club.

Clubman Heavy – fifteen starters and very close up the front of the field, Esperance driver Simon Minton had the edge and took top spot on the podium over Stephen Arscott from Exmouth and local peddler Travis Wright home in 3rd. Entertaining class with many a brave move trying to pass.

Super Heavy had nine and a clean sweep for Lee Foster Jr from Hurricane, second for the class was local driver Russell Johnson, 3rd Steve Gras also from Hurricane

Only three Restricted 125’s and it was father son David & Luke Lang first & second sharing the wins from local driver in his first meeting Travis Fraser. Travis was a bit unlucky during the weekend with the Leopard suffering with surging issues

Nine Over 40’s and state champ Greg Dicker, Bunbury climbed onto the top spot on the podium ahead of local drivers Lance McGregor and Dave Green. Lance and another local Peter Tarbotton managed to lead Greg home in a couple of heats.

Eleven 125 Heavies and it was local driver and state Rotax Heavy champ Simon Gwilliam with 4 wins from 5 starts. Second was Tiger member Gary Dunlop with third going to Mathew Chambers, Tiger. In the heavy class Rotax filled the podium.

Seven 125 Lights and the winner was Deni Razmovski from Tiger, second for the round was Ricky Carmody from Kalgoorlie with third place getter state Rotax light champ Midwest member Nathen Davis. Also back to Kal for a crack at the cash was Hayden Patrizi, with two race wins Hayden was on the pace from the start considering he hasn’t driven karts for some time and a DNF wrecked his day

To all the competitors, their support crew and friends, thanks for making the trip to the Goldfields and see you next year – The EGKC put on a top show.
