Latest Leopard News

Remo Racing has been receiving many emails and phone calls regarding the Leopard class rules for 2009. The information below, as published on www.leopardengine.com, is from Remo himself:

UPDATE ON REV-LIMITER
After many months of deliberation from the NKC regarding the rev-limiter for Leopard Class, it has finally been resolved after an NKC telephone hook-up on 18.12.08.

The implementation date of the Leopard Rev-Limiter will be compulsory as of the 1st of May 2009, but optional as of 1st January 2009.

This gives the opportunity for the person buying a new engine to purchase it with a Rev-Limiter as it is already included as standard, ready for the compulsory date of the 1st May 2009.

Also, Restricted Leopard engine competitors can also use all three ignition units during the 12-month faze-out period. You have all year to comply by January 1st 2010.

The old green and red button analogue 4-pole ignition will continue to be eligible for a 12-month faze out period but will not be eligible for State and National Championships or Leopard Series events where it may be stated 'only key-start is allowed' in the supp-regs.

In addition, I wish to remind everyone that I have kept the price of the Leopard engine fitted with the new Rev-limiter the same price at $2,995.00 which has remained the same price since 2001.

More details will be released when the AKA / NKC officially notify us with more terms and conditions.

A MESSAGE FROM REMO REGARDING THE REV-LIMITER

The decision for the 15,800 rev limiter is 'not only' for reliability, it is the 'longevity' and 'economical' running costs in between engine rebuilds.

I have done testing at 15,800 and there is 'very little' to no difference to the lap times you are doing today.
Please test your own engine out at the track and take enough teeth off to do 15,800 and you will surprise yourself at the lap time and your tyre wear will be much better as it is not aggressive off the turns.

So you may ask "why dont you just leave it as it is, if 15,800 is faster, why introduce a rev-limiter?"

Simple... it only takes 1 person to have a million teeth on and you cannot stay with him off the turns and you play 'catch-up' down the straights, so then you automatically put teeth on to stay with him off the turn.

But, when 'everybody' is rev-limited they will be a little slower off the turn and much stronger mid-range and top-end resulting in the same overall lap time.

I have put hundreds of thousands of dollars into Leopard class since its inception in 2000, I would not make a decision to make it fail. I am looking after it's future for the karter.
