Brabham Wins Top Guns Rd 1

press release

Matthew Brabham scored an impressive win in his Jr Rotax debut at the first round of the Young Gun series held at the Oakleigh race track in Melbourne, Vic.  Driving his DP Karts Arrow Jr Rotax for the first time Matthew put in a dominating performance securing pole and winning the prefinal and final by a comfortable margin.

“The kart and engine were awesome tonight” Matthew said after the race. “It took a little practice to adjust to the driving style required in Jr Rotax but once I had that sorted it was a lot of fun to drive and great to win straight out of the box”.

Matthew also competed in the Jr National Light race but engine problems later to be diagnosed as a cracked cylinder head put the brakes on any chance of being competitive in the final.

“We were not sure what the problem was with the JNL Kart as it was getting slower and slower as the day went on. The team were chasing the chassis setup at first, but in the final the engine really went off big time and there was nothing I could do but try and make it to the finish”.

Round 2 of the Young Guns series will be held at Oakleigh next Friday night the 23rd, points will be combined from the two races to decide the Young Guns for 2009.
