Victorian Open Shaping Up To Be Huge

AKA press release

Karters wishing to compete at the first State Championship of 2009, the Victorian Open Sprint Kart Championships to be held at Puckapunyal on February 13-15, are reminded that entries for the Event close this Friday.

At this stage the Victorian Karting Association are anticipating to receive close to 400 entries across the 16 classes on offer at the Championships.

“With the Victorian Open being the first State Championship on the karting calendar it is pleasing to see that despite the current economic downturn that we are on track for a large number of entries,” said Victorian Karting Association President David Murray.

“This Event is traditionally one of the biggest held in the country each year and it has been several years since it has been held at Puckapunyal – a track which is a favourite for many competitors.

“At this stage we have received entries from all across the country and given that we will have over 1000 visitors to the region when you include the pit crews and family also attending the event accommodation is at a premium.

“To cater for the demand in accommodation the Eastern Lions Club has also allowed camping at the circuit, they will also be catering across the weekend of an evening for those staying at the circuit.”

Last year’s Championships were held in Geelong with over 460 drivers competing.

Some of the defending champions expected to compete at next month’s Event include Bart Price (Clubman Light), Matthew Wall (Clubman Heavy), Jason Stania (Clubman Super Heavy), Remo Luciani (Clubman Over 40s) and Rick Pringle (Rotax Heavy).
