Kuhlmann Takes SS4s Opener

press release

Stepping up to the Senior Light class in 2009, Nathan Kuhlmann made the perfect start to the year by taking out the opening round of the ProKart Australia Super Sprint 4’s Series last Sunday at Oran Park Raceway in dominating fashion.

Kuhlmann, who competed last year in the Senior Sportsman class, was second in qualifying, won all three of his heat races and then blitzed the field in the final in what was a very impressive display of driving. Second and third in the Senior Light class was newcomers Ben McGuire and Matthew Cunneen.

Dominating the Senior Heavy class, defending Super Sprint 4’s Series class champion Rick Ward was the quickest overall in qualifying and he managed to finish second overall in all three heat races and the final to earn him the winning honours in the Senior Heavy class ahead of Mat Wagner.

In the Senior Sportsman class Rob Gillett was the best of the bunch by qualifying third overall and finishing in that same position in all three heat races and the final behind winner Kuhlmann and second placed Ward.

The only casualty of the round was Bretton Coghlan from the Senior Light class who was unable to contest the final due to suffering vapor lock in the fuel system on the pre-grid which stopped his engine from starting. This was disappointing after he had shown good form throughout his heat races.

Unfortunately due to a lack of entries the Junior classes in the ProKart Australia Super Sprint 4’s had to be cancelled.

The second round of the ProKart Australia Super Sprint 4’s Series is to be held down at Wollongong City Raceway (Kembla Grange, South Coast of NSW) on Sunday, March 15.
