press release / Dan Ferry - full results on mylaps.com HERE

Hot and humid was the order of the day at Newcastle for the first round of the Trans-West Premier State Cup for 2009.  With a re-vamped format, the numbers were good, with 115 competitors on Saturday and 106 on Sunday, a total of 221.  Everyone seemed happy with the one day format with more laps for everyone.

Formula JMA
Formula JMA was a much anticipated class and it lived up to expectations. The heats were shared between Darsey Kondopirakis and Pierce Lehane. The finals then went the way of Jaie Robson, with Pierce Lehane and Darsey Kondopirakis rounding out the podium.

Clubman Heavy
A smaller field, with Jason Hrynuik, Jason Varley and Gordon Wilson taking top honours, Jason H winning comfortably in the end.  Jason also took out the fastest qualifier tankard to add to his collection.

Clubman Light

A great field, with James Kovacic making a grand entrance to seniors, being fastest qualifier and winning all five races to dominate the first round. Brett Robinson and Thomas Phillips rounded out the podium.

Senior National Light

SNL was always going to be close racing with local Nathan Taylor putting it on pole and taking out Heat 1& 3. Phillip Betteridge took out Heat 2 before Daniel Foot won both the pre-final and final from Matthew Waters and Aaron Borg.

Senior National Heavy
A smaller, but very classy field of 14, with 10 from the NSW State Titles competing for the top prize.  Good close racing all day. Adam Pisula was the fastest qualifier and won everything but the final, getting pushed back to third with Nathan Sinclair and Nijel Williams first and second.

Rookies
A good field of 20, with many new faces to the Premier State Cup.  Cameron Hill was fastest qualifier.  It then went on to be the Cameron Hill and Dylan Higgins show, with Higgins gaining the upper hand in the final, Dimitri Agathos winning the battle for third.

Junior National Light
A great field of 25, with many rookies from 2008 making the step to juniors.  Joseph Mawson was fastest qualifier and went on to win a close final from Waters and Di Camillo.

Junior Clubman
The smallest field for the weekend with only 6 competitors.  The heats and Prefinal victories were shared around before Warren White Jnr went on to take the final from Roffey and Tate.

Rotax Light
Jason Hrynuik fastest qualifier out of a field of 17.  Heat wins were shared between Hrynuik, Whitmore and Robson. Robson then went on with the job and took out the Prefinal and Final from Gread and Whitmore.

Junior National Heavy

In JNH Joseph Mawson showed us why he carries the blue plate dominating the days proceedings. He took the final from Newcastle’s Shannon Holley and Albury’s Macauley Jones.

Rotax Heavy

In Rotax Heavy the time sheets say that Daniel Stein dominated winning all the races but on track it was a little different, he was closely followed by Grant Donley, Daniel Baker and Craig Stauner.

TaG Light

James Kovacic showed us he will be a force to be reckoned with in 2009 taking a clean sweep of the races in TaG Light. Kovacic had minor hiccup in the final but came through to take the win from Symes & King.

TaG Heavy

Simon Roberts & Daniel Baker were the early pace setters in TaG Heavy. Simon Roberts took the pace up a notch in the Finals taking the win from Daniel Stein and Daniel Baker.

For anyone interested in running PSC, its not too late, as long as you register and run the rest of the rounds, you will be eligible to run the final round at Newcastle, which will be run, for the very first time, in reverse direction.

A great weekend of racing with good weather, plenty of laps and happy winners.  We will do it all again at round two at Lithgow on April 25 and 26. For more info visit www.premierstatecup.com
