Another Attempt For CIK In Australia?

There is another push to get CIK-style racing up and running in Australia. KartSportNews received a press release from NSW karter Peter Galvin indicating that CIK racing was set for a return to these shores later this year.

The AKA has a grid-full of IAME KF2 engines that were purchased for the class some time ago. The category was to have run under a 'teams' format with a heavily controlled technical package where karters leased the motors from the AKA.

This new proposal is open to private and 'factory' teams with the engines for sale to karters at $3300 (or pay $825 per round for 4 rounds).

"You can use your own engine builder as the engine is yours" Galvin informed KartSportNews. "However, your engine builder will (need to) be registered with the AKA and will seal your engine with his personal seal. If that engine is found to be illegal then the driver will be disqualified and the engine builder fined - not the driver."

Some other details are:

  • The radiator does not come with the engine and is 'open'

  • Front brakes are optional

  • At this stage there will be four rounds - 1 in QLD, 2 in NSW and 1 in VIC

  • The series winner and Australian champion will win a drive in a major CIK race meeting overseas

  • Dunlop are supplying the tyres @ roughly $290 per set. Three sets will be required at the first round;
    1 for practice and 2 for racing.

Further information (such as a race calendar) is set to be announced in two weeks time. Enquireis to Peter Galvin on 0433 042 900.
