Vodafone Continues Support For Hays

press release

Vodafone Australia has announced it is continuing its support for young Australian karter Chris Hays throughout the year with Australian karting icon Jon Targett also becoming a part of the program.

Targett, who played a significant part in the formative years of James Courtney and David Besnard’s careers, will play a major role throughout the year with young Hays.

“A couple of years ago we were looking to develop a mentoring program here in Australia, similar to what has happened with Lewis Hamilton in England, and we are pleased to be continuing our program with Chris for the third year and also incorporate Jon into the program as well,” said Vodafone Australia Motorsport Sponsorship Manager Stephen Saunders.

Throughout the year Hays will compete in the elite Junior Clubman category at all of the major karting Events aboard his Vodafone-backed Tony Kart.

“Being involved in the Vodafone mentoring program has been great for me over the past couple of years and I’m really looking forward to having JT (Jon Targett) as a part of the program this year,” said Hays.

Since becoming a part of the Vodafone mentoring program at the start of 2007 Hays spent time with 2008 World Formula One Champion Lewis Hamilton and team boss Ron Dennis, visited the McLaren Formula One factory in England and has been mentored by reigning V8 Supercar Champion Jamie Whincup.

Hays will unveil his 2009 Vodafone colours for the first time at the National Sprint Kart Championships in Townsville, Queensland this week.
