Sugar City Titles

press release

Karters from Townsville, Cairns, Moranbah, Rockhampton and Gladstone travelled to Mackay for the annual Sugar City Titles on the weekend, April 18-19 at Kielbach Park.

84 nominations were received across the fields. Racing was still high quality with SNH 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place getters battling the entire final for the podiums. Positions changed each lap with Rob Thornburn too good for the rest of the field.  Shannon Price in the SNL, fresh from the Nationals, was too good for the rest of the field, with Scott Unwin (Rocky) and Steve West (Mackay) left chasing.  Bigger than normal Midget fields saw Jordan McGregor come from 9th at the start of the final to win the class.

After a 12 month break, Steve Muscat stepped back into the Sportman Over 40's leading the field all weekend, with an extremely tight tustle during the final for 2nd and 3rd. Rod McPherson and Rob Penfold were both unlucky to both retire injured after a collision on the back section of the track early in the meet.

Bevan Garioch showed off his motorcylce skills with a heel clicker while crossing the finish line in the final of the Sportsman Heavy just beating Mark Muscat. Sportsman Light was won by Brook Leach after Todd Stevens was swamped at the start by the pack and never recovered.

The Mackay Kart Club extends their sincere thanks to all sponsors of the meet, and the officials and volunteers at the track for the weekend who assisted such a successful weekend.  Racing at Mackay will be D/N on Saturday 9th May.
