Jake Downs - The New Kid In Town

press release

Move over Craig Lowndes, there's a new kid in Town.

10 year old Jake Downs is almost a karting veteran having first jumped behind the wheel of his kart when he was 6 years old.  Not many people in Moura in Central Queensland realise that Jake is destined to succeed.  With his pit crew headed by chief mechanic Matt (Dad), Shannon (Mum) sisters Krystal (12) and Kaitlyn(7) Jake took his first title win this last weekend at the MacKay Sugar City Titles.

"This was a great win" says the tenacious ten year old. "We've been so close, so many times and to take this win was the best race of my career." Jake would like to thank his Dad for setting his new BRM kart to perfection.  He adds  "Mum only let him have the new BRM a couple of weeks ago as a reward for doing great in maths".  Shannon (Mum) puts it down to Jake's commitment to be the best he can be.   "He deserved the new kart and really earned the title race win" says the proud pit crew. "Jake gives constant feed back to this mechanic, races clean and consistent.  We're very proud of him."

"Team Downs" have travelled to MacKay, Townsville, Rockhampton,Gladstone, Cooloola Coast, Ipswich, Toowoomba and ventured as far as Wyalla SA to Darwin NT. Jake's path to V8 stardom is marked, Rookie racing for now (he is only 10), Junior Clubman/JMax, Senior Max, Formula Ford, Development Series then V8s. He has enlisted the help of Jon Targett who builds his engines and knows all the layouts of every Queensland track. For NSW he has the support of the BRM Factory team and head mechanic Karl Lindbom who knows more than a few things around Eastern Creek (next round of the Premier State Cup) and in Melbourne BRM's Domenic Albanese knows all the right stuff to prepare Jake for his national title campaign in a few years time.

The MacKay Sugar City Rookie Title holder is the newest kid in Town and we only need to wait a mere decade to see him at Mount Panorama.
