Wesble Wins Australian Speedway Kart Title

press release

It has certainly been a long time coming, but finally Gavin Wesble is an Australian Speedway Kart Title holder after he took out victory in the ‘Premier’ Outlaws class over the weekend at Gatton Speedway up in Queensland.

Strengthened by his desire to win an Australian Title after finishing on the podium on four separate occasions over the years and to dedicate to the memory of his late father, John, Wesble was more relieved than happy to finally break through for the victory.

“I have been waiting to win an Australian Title for such a long time and to finally do it is not only a wonderful feeling but a wonderful relief too,” expressed Wesble. “This year I really wanted to dedicate it to the memory of my father and I have no doubt that he was looking down on me and the only thing that would have made this win better was if he was here to share it with me. Although he is not here with me physically, he is certainly with me in spiritually and I know he would be so proud of me and just as relieved as I am too as he, along with the rest of my family, knew how much winning an Australian Title meant to me.”

Wesble’s Australian Title assault didn’t go all to plan as he struggled with setup throughout his qualifying heat races but despite not being happy with the performance of his Go Kart his results were good enough to put him as the second highest point scorer heading into the feature race. Wesble finished his four heat races around the 540 metre Gatton Speedway track in third, fourth, first and second.

“I had actually seized my engine at the completion of my victory in the third heat race and that left me a bit concerned but thankfully it [the engine] cooled down and it was alright for the final heat race and the feature race,” explained Wesble. “My kart was way too tight during the heat races and for the feature race we got it right and that was where it mattered the most.”

In the Australian Title deciding feature race for the Outlaws class, Wesble hit the lead early on and from there he was never seriously challenged and came away with a comfortable victory of the length of the Gatton Speedway main straight.

Wesble wanted to say a big thanks to his sponsor for the weekend, Rigweld Fabrication in Branxton, and also all of his crew; Daniel Simone, Chris Fench and Mike Gibbs as well as the Rinkin family for all their ongoing support.
