Heat Turned Up At Wollongong's Saturday Night Series

press release

The third round of the Saturday Night Go Kart Series was fought out last Saturday night (May 2) at Wollongong City Raceway and the race action that was displayed was very close and hard fought.

TAG Red had the honour of being the highest contested class for the round and it resulted in Vince Ferraro taking out the final in the TAG Red Heavy, while Enzo Mendicino did likewise in the TAG Red Light class.

In excess of 20 competitors lined up in the TAG Red class and action leading into the final, where both Light and Heavy classes were combined, saw Matt Ferraro top the time sheets in qualifying and it was Mendicino that won all three heat races in convincing fashion. Other strong performers in the heat races included Matt Ferraro, Anthony Rawlings, Grant Gaffa and Vince Ferraro. After finishing second in all three heat races, Matt Ferraro didn’t have the best of runs during the final in the Light class and consequently finished back in fifth place.

The second highest populated class of the round was Clubman and it resulted with the victory spoils going to Ian Beeraz who had had also taken out all three heat races. In the final Beeraz was simply too strong and finished ahead of Dean Starling and Leigh Wright. Former NSW Speedway Kart Champion and regular Endurance Kart racer Nathan Peick made a solid start to the round by qualifying on pole position; however he was unfortunately unable to duplicate that speed during any of the heat races or the final and finished the final back in fifth place.

Andrew Worner was the form driver of the field in TAG Restricted / TAG Super Heavy combined class where he was quickest in qualifying and he then won two of the three heat races. Worner in the final capped off his good run by defeating Chad Horsley, who earlier won a heat race, and in third was Michael Bartley.

A perfect performance from Joe Chetcuti in the Open Performance class resulted in him qualifying on top and then carrying that good form to win all three heat races and the final in strong fashion.

Alex Henry came out on top in the Senior National class by taking out the final ahead Darryl Apps and Justin Smith. Henry won both heat race one and two and finished second in the other, while Apps won heat race three and Smith was the quickest of the field in qualifying.
