Preview: Superkart Nationals, Round 1

press release

This weekend, June 6-7th, the cream of Australian Superkart Racing will contest the first round of this years' Championship at Mallala near Adelaide.

A strong field of championship contenders will vie for supremacy and a points advantage to take to the closing Round at Sydneys' Eastern Creek Raceway in late July.

The reigning Australian 250Inter Champion Darren Hossack will make every effort to defend his title from a group of serious and well prepared former champions the likes of Sam Zavaglia and Warren McIlveen. Russ Jamieson, a former 125 Aust Champion, is on a mission and will debute his 250 Inter at Championship level, and will be one to watch. However, our 2009 Champion could also come from literally an army of contenders that include Gary Pegoraro,  brothers Ilya and Yianni Harpas, Kristian Stebbing, Anton Stevens, and many other from our high quality competitor list.

The 125 field is again littered with quality competition and close racing will be a feature from these championship aspirants. 125 Aust Champion Brad Stebbing again defends his title, and this year will find brothers Chryss and Drene Jamieson, Darren Dunn, and Jeff Reed all vying for that coveted crown. Notably, long time 250 campaigner John Pellicano will contest the 125 Championship, so an enthralling battle will pervade the field.

SKA is proud to once again promote the Australian Superkart Championship on behalf of our sport's members, and we welcome and appreciate the sponsorship contribution this year of ART MOTORSPORT - EVERYTHING SUPERKARTING, and sincerely thank you.

To our competitors and their teams readying to go to Mallala, we wish you the best of enjoyable and safe travel and racing. SKA Chairman Clint Brown will be at the event on our behalf. David Bellenger will again represent SKA as our Category Manager, so check in with him over there for event logistics such as garage allocation.

Good racing all!
