Hodgson Wins NZ SpeedSport Magazine Star of Tomorrow Scholarship

press release

Auckland 15-year-old Aaron Hodgson is the latest winner of the annual SpeedSport magazine Star of Tomorrow motor racing Scholarship.

One of the country's top young karters, Hodgson beat out six other finalists on the second day of evaluation at the Manfeild motor racing circuit on Sunday 14th June 2009.

In doing so he has won an all-expenses drive in next season's New Zealand Formula First championship plus a customised driving suit from Chicane Clothing and an Arai helmet from New Zealand importer Dold Industries.

Hodgson is the ninth winner of the annual scholarship and has some sizable driving boots to fill.

Previous winners include rising V8 Supercar championship star Shane van Gisbergen and 2008/09 MTA New Zealand Formula Ford champion Ritchie Stanaway.

Runner-up this year was another young Auckland karter, Matt Higham from Albany.

As always SpeedSport magazine publisher and editor Grant McDonald was impressed with the standard of all the drivers, making the job of picking a winner as hard as ever.

"It's never easy but each year it seems to get harder and this year was no exception."

Each year ambitious young drivers from all over New Zealand converge on the Manfeild circuit in June for the two-day SpeedSport Star of Tomorrow Scholarship evaluation programme.

Drivers are put through a mix of theoretical and practical driving tests with the judges looking for a mix of speed, consistency and presentability.
