New South Wales teenager Lachlan O’Reilly, driving an Australian designed and manufactured Azzurro kart, won his first State Title at Darwin on the weekend in a hotly contested JNL final.

Lachlan recorded the fastest time of the final late in the race and had been one of the drivers to beat since going out on the track in his older model chassis in Thursday’s unofficial practice sessions.

It was the O’Reilly’s third trip to the top end for the annual event, and first time by car with kart trailer in tow, an 8000km round trip.

Lachlan’s younger brother Sean raced in the Rookie class and finished a respectable ninth, with Mum and Dad equally proud of his efforts over the weekend. The mid pack of Rookie drivers provided some of the best 3 wide racing to be seen out of NASCAR in the States.

All Midget and Rookie drivers competing received a participation trophy at the presentation evening.

“Darwin Karting Association always puts on such a well run meeting, with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in the tropical winter sunshine.” The O’Reilly family highly recommend the NT Titles for karters who love their racing to be fast and clean.

A mix of local and interstate drivers provide tough competition, and if anyone suggests that it’s easier to win than other State Titles, they obviously haven’t made the trip north themselves is the general consensus around the pits.

The 2012 Nationals at Darwin will be one to remember so start planning soon how to get yourself and your gear up there. Link it in with some Barra’ fishing, a trip out to Litchfield NP and a sunset cruise across the harbour.

Lachlan in his speech at the trophy presentation thanked the following people and sponsors:

"Mum and Dad for bringing me to NT State Titles and Dad for setting up the kart, my brother Sean for his support and company travelling up, Tony Grant from Lismore Kart Club for his ongoing assistance, Graham Armstrong for building an awesome engine, Troy Hunt for the "Top Gun" driver training, Azzurro Karts Australia and Smart Ecosystems."

Lachlan would also be interested in hearing from any businesses that would like to work out a sponsorship marketing deal for the next 12 months whilst he will be proudly displaying his State Title holders' "Blue Plate" at race tracks from the ACT to the NT and all the States in between, including his local kart tracks at Lismore, Coffs Harbour and Grafton.
