Melbourne’s David Sera put together arguably the drive of his career to take victory in the Rotax Pro Tour Skyline Cup at VACC Park today, coming from the rear of the field to take his second successive Rotax Pro Tour victory, whilst Tyson Pearce ‘clean sweeped’ the weekend in the Australian CIK Championships.

ROTAX LIGHT
Sera was forced to start his Arrow X1 from the rear of grid in the Rotax Light final after a collision on the opening lap of the Pre-Final. He scythed through the field until he was on racing terms with runaway leader Daniel Rochford. With a handful of laps to run, Sera made his move on Rochford, however the young CC Racing Intrepid driver fought back, meeting the chequered flag line astern with Sera, the margin of victory just 0.047 seconds.

Third place was Bart Price who set his final charge up in the Pre-Final. Price started that race 11th and made best use of the melee in front of him to charge through and secure a front row start alongside Troy Woolston. Price would best Woolston in the final. Rounding out the top five was Tony Kart driver Jordie Lindstrom, who, like Sera had to charge from the back after a turn one Pre-Final incident.

ROTAX HEAVY
William Yarwood was online for a clean sweep of the weekend, however CC Racing’s Paul Rodgers aimed to spoil that. Yarwood, Rogers and Jason Pringle cleared out at the start, before Rogers was able to get past the Queenslander.

Try as he might, Yarwood was unable to make his way past Rodgers who went on to record one of the biggest wins of his career in front of a vocal home crowd and CC Racing team.

Third was Pringle, his brother Rick put in one of the drives of the race coming from the rear of the pack to finish fourth. Daniel Stein rounded out the top five. A thought has to be spared for Kosmic driver Daniel Richert, who was solidly in the top three. He had a coming together with Pringle in the opening laps, spinning and then took the Kosmic through to position nine.

FORMULA J-MAX
Ben Jurczak took his Redspeed machine to a fabulous victory in Formula J-MAX, which doubled as the Victorian Championship for the class. The battle was between pole-sitter Max Johnston, Jurczak, Pierce Lehane and lady racer, Brittany Hall.

In the end, Jurczak was able to assert the advantage to take the win, whilst Johnston held out Lehane in the Rockstar Energy Drinks CRG. The battles all the way through the top 10 raged for the entire 28 lap distance. Matthew Hart charged his way through to finish fourth, whilst Hall was fifth.

Jack Howard in the Crimsafe Arrow was one of the fastest on track after a problem in the Pre-Final and charged his way through to sixth in front of Vodafone Tony Kart driver, Christopher Hays who was in the thick of it before a mid-race collision.

ROTAX OVER-35s
Paul Mapperson recovered today to take victory in Rotax Over-35s from Stable Karting Tony Kart driver, Bruce Otter. The battle looked to be a three way fight between Mapperson, Otter and Kosmic driver, Chris Stern, however Stern exited the race after 12 laps with a mechanical problem.

Try as he might, Otter was unable to close the gap to Mapperson. Pro Tour I winner, Nicholas Crawshay came through to finish in third placing with Ian Thornley and Doug Haig rounding out the top five.

ROTAX DD2
Travis Millar picked up where he left off yesterday and took out Rotax DD2, however Queenslander, Kyle Ensbey kept him honest right until the last lap – Millar winning by just 0.242.

Fastest laps see-sawed between the two, however Millar’s Tony Kart proved superior. Grant Smith in the Baron Engines Tony Kart had no answer for the top two, but finished in third placing. DEEPS Engineering Arrow driver, Brinley Gread overcame a litany of problems to finish fourth.

Gread had a battery failure in the Pre-Final, before the fuel tank came loose in the final! He held onto the fuel tank whilst charging around the circuit at an average lap speed in excess of 84.5 kilometres per hour!

Gordon Wells finished in fifth placing, whilst the battle between Peter Beeten, Steve Martin and Robert Harnas continued today, ultimately resolved in favour of Beeten. Paul Hamilton put in a notable performance, however had to pull out of the final in the early stages with a split fuel line.

CIK-KF2
Tyson Pearce took an emotional victory in both finals aboard his Omega Kart, holding off the challenge from Gillard’s Hayden McBride.

It will go down as one of the finest weekends in CIK competition for the Omega Racing Team. Pearce clean swept the weekend and try as they might none of the competition were able to snatch the Victorian Championship from him.

McBride hung on for a sensational second placing in both finals, some changes overnight assisted him in front of Team CRG’s Mitchell Cunningham. The New Zealand Formula Toyota Champion put in a solid effort to record two third placings.

In final one, Simon Roberts took his CRG to fourth spot, whilst New South Welshman finished fifth.
The second final saw West Aussie Steven Scoble finish fourth, salvaging something out of what had been a pretty torrid weekend for the Kart One driver. Ryan Gallagher recorded his first top five finish of the CIK season.

A thought had to be spared for Kosmic driver, Damien Radosevic. He finished yesterday second on points, but it all went pear shaped today. No doubt, he will be keen to put Todd Road behind him and move on to the next event at Raleigh.

All of today’s action can be caught on Fox Sports on July 14 at 3pm, with replays at 10am Saturday, July 18 and Thursday, July 23 at 12pm.

The next Rotax Pro Tour event will be held at the Raleigh Circuit just outside Coffs Harbour over August 7-9.
