Karting Decisions, World Motor Sport Council

Updated homologation regulations - HERE

press release

At its meeting on 24 June 2009 in Paris, the FIA World Motor Sport Council took in particular the following decisions regarding Karting:

Sporting Regulations
As from 1st January 2010, the minimum age for the issuing of Drivers’ international Karting licences will be determined on the basis of the civil year (or calendar year) instead of the birthday.

Technical Regulations
As from 1st January 2010, the minimum weight in the KZ1 category will be increased from 170 to 175 kg, thus being aligned on that of KZ2.

As from 1st January 2010, only one compound quality for CIK-FIA homologated tyres will be prescribed for each category, namely:

- «soft» type tyres in KZ1,
- «medium» type tyres in KF2 and KZ2,
- «hard» type tyres in KF3.

As from 1st January 2011, the rear track and rear wheel width dimensions of KF3 karts (Junior)
will be standardised with those of the so-called «Senior» categories karts (i.e. 140 cm
for the rear track and 215 mm for the rear wheels).

2009 CIK-FIA calendar
On request of the Automobile Club de Monaco, the KZ2 category will be added to the programme of the CIK-FIA Monaco Kart Cup for KF3 scheduled for 16-18 October. The number of entries in KF3 will be limited to 40 and to 30 in KZ2.
