Sunday Racing League Action At Wollongong

press release

The second round of the 2009 Sunday Racing League Kart Series was fought out last Sunday (July 12) at Wollongong City Raceway and it was certainly a spirited day of race action from start to finish.

With many of the classes that make up the Sunday Racing League Kart Series combined for the round, the highlight from the classes was Robert Gurnett who took out the victory spoils in the Senior National and Clubman Light and Heavy combined class when he defeated his brother Michael Gurnett and home in third place was Chris Cuttell. Earlier in the round, Robert had won two out of three heat races, while Michael won the other. On many occasions this year there certainly hasn’t been much that has separated the Gurnett brothers.

Enzo Mendicino came out on top in the final for the TAG Red Light and Heavy and TAG Yellow combined class and he did so by greeting the chequered flag ahead of Joe Gauci and Matt Ferraro. In the qualifying heat races both Mendicino and Gauci were the pacesetters.

Mark Horsely and Noel Jago shared heat race wins between each other in the TAG Super Heavy and TAG Over 40s combined class before Horsely triumphant in the final. Finishing in second and third on the podium in the final was Jago and John De Govi.

In the Junior class action it was Jonathon Gauci in the Junior National, Midgets and Rookies class combined and he won not only the final but also all three qualifying heat races.

The third and final round of the Sunday Racing League Kart Series is to be held on Sunday, August 9 at Wollongong City Raceway.
