Warren McIlveen has taken pole position for the final round of the www.artmotorsport.com.au Australian Superkart Championship as qualifying was decided by the tiniest of margins, with McIlveen's margin over Yianni Harpas just four hundreths of a second.

The second qualifying session was slower with very few improving leaving McIlveen's time in the Mac's Marine/Soundy's Electrical Stockman-Honda of 1:30.3992 standing as the pole time. McIlveen was pleased however to be fastest in both sessions.

"It's a good start, still having handling problems." said McIlveen had had stated after the first session that the car was loose after trying different tyre combinations.

Yiani Harpas qualified on the front row in the Internode/Metaplanners/Davtec Zip-BRC, continuing his good form from Mallala round where he broke through for his first race wins. Series points leader Sam Zavaglia will start from position three in the SVR Stockman-Yamaha.

"I'm happy with progress," said Zavaglia. "This grid is so close, anything can happen in the races. It's going to be about consistency over the weekend."

Reigning champion Darren Hossack in the Safe Evolutions prepared Anderson-Safe will start out of fourht grid position, the top four covered by seven hundredths of a second. Gary Pegoraro will start out of fifth in the Dunlop Kartsport RMR Superkarts Anderson-FPE, while sixth grid position will be the major improver from the second qualifying session, Kristian Stebbing in the Suburban Accounting Stockman-Honda, improving by two seconds. Stephen Castles also improved in the Top Torque Engine Stockman-Honda, pipping Shane Price in Safe Evolutions Anderson-Safe for seventh position. Anton Stevens in the www.artmotorsport.com.au PVP and Colin McIntyre in the second of the RMR Superkarts Anderson-FPEs rounds of the top ten qualifiers.

In the 125cc division, Jeff Reed secured pole position in the Telgrit Stockman-Honda while series points leader Steven Tamasi (Domain Prestige Homes Stockman-Honda) improved to move onto the front row ahead of Brad Stebbing (Suburban Accounting Stockman-Yamaha) with John Pellicano completing the top four in the Giova Design supported Avoig-Honda.

The first race will be held at 3:00pm this afternoon ahead of three races on Sunday.
