3 Podiums For Neri

press release

Tony Kart and Ocala Gran Prix (OGP) driver Nick Neri claimed three podiums including one victory at the most recent round of the World Karting Association (WKA) Manufacturer’s Cup at the Briggs and Stratton Motorplex on the grounds of the famed Road America. Competing in four junior classes, Neri overcame some bad luck to salvage a few podium results but dominated the HPV Junior Heavy main event to take the win.

In the HPV Junior Heavy class, Neri would start the day off by qualifying in the second position. A great start in the prefinal would allow him to steal the victory as well as a pole position starting spot for the main event. Determined to take the win, Neri jumped out to the lead early and, while turning the fastest lap of the race, pulled away from his rivals to take the win.

Looking to continue the success from the Heavy class, Neri also entered the HPV Junior Light class and would look to fight for the win. After qualifying near the front of the pack and finishing second in the prefinal, Neri would score the fastest lap in the main event but would come home second scoring valuable championship points.

The Yamaha classes would provide some trouble for the talented Floridian as Neri would be forced to retire from the Yamaha Junior Light class and be classified near the tail of the field. Also competing in the Yamaha Junior Heavy class, the Tony Kart pilot qualified in the 17th position but would start from the back in 26th after a motor change.

Charging through the field, Neri turned one of the quickest laps in the prefinal as he battled his way up to 11th. With a chance at a top five, Neri and his crew went to work to make the kart even better for the main event. Driving like a seasoned veteran, Neri progressively moved forward throughout the main event to take the final podium result in third. Neri also scored the fastest lap of the main event.

“I had a very good weekend,” stated Neri after the completion of the event. “I really think we could have left here with three wins but some bad luck forced us to start near the back of the pack. We are in contention for several championships at WKA and I can’t wait for the next event at New Castle Motorsports Park.”

Nick Neri would like to thank his all of his 2009 supporters: Ocala Gran Prix, Tony Kart Florida, Pitts Performance, Alpinestars, Grand Products, Bridgestone and his tuner Kyle Kraus
