D'sRK Bank Solid Points At Supercheap Round

press release

The Harrington Doyle supported Doyle’s Racing Kartsport team continued its strong presence in the recent Round 3 of the Supercheap Auto Kart Series at Bundaberg, with another podium and 3 other top 7 placings.  Series Nominations for the Round were strong, with 104 competitors having travelled to compete across the 7 classes offered.  Practice on Saturday was busy and racing on Sunday was well executed by the host club, Series Officials, drivers and crews.

Pro Clubman Light - Brendan Nelson (Kosmic # 70)
17yo team driver Brendan Nelson continued to shine in the Pro Clubman Light (150kg) class taking overall 2nd place for the round in what was some fantastic racing with Cian Fothergill, Shay Mayes and Ben Stewart.   The Bundaberg round of the Queensland Series attracted a reputable 19 nominations in the Pro Clubman Light category, with a tremendous depth of talent, including Kel Treseder, Clinton Marcon, Scott Sorensen, Brenton Simmonds and 3 of the Garioch boys.

Contested over three 15Klm races, the Pro Clubman Light field saw Fothergill, Nelson, Mayes and Stewart making the way to the front each time.  The Race 1 chequered flag fell on Fothergill, Mayes, Nelson and Stewart with the rest of the field in hot pursuit.  Race 2 saw the same four again cross the line at the front of the pack.  This time Nelson leading Mayes, Fothergill and Stewart home.  Going into the 3rd and final race for the day, Fothergill and Nelson were tied for Round points.  During 20 anti-clockwise laps of the Bundaberg circuit, Stewart would steal the thunder from Fothergill, Nelson and Mayes as he crossed the line to take the win.

Leopard Light – Brendan Nelson (Kosmic # 70)
Although believing that he had a strong Kart set-up on Saturday, Nelson wouldn’t be so competitive amongst the other 17 other Leopard Light drivers come race day.  With a 5th place in Race 1, a DNF in Race 2 due to a loose exhaust header pipe and an improved 4th in Race 3, he had only banked enough race points to finish 6th in the round behind Grother, Fothergill, Prajbisz, Jaenke and Mayes.

Pro Junior National – Mitchell Gee (Arrow # 13)
Debuting his new Arrow XE28 kart at Bundaberg, 11yo team driver Mitchell Gee spent the weekend getting ever more comfortable in the new seat as the weekend wore on.  A solid 6th in Race 1 was quickly followed by a 7th place finish in Race 2.  Fine tuning by Mitchell and his father Michael prior to Race 3 allowed Mitchell to pick off competitors in the final race to cross the line in 4th.  This solid showing in his new Kart would net Mitchell a very credible 6th overall for the round in a very strong field of 22 juniors.

Rookies – Callum Walker (Tony Kart # 71)
Young Callum continued to show his determination behind the wheel of his blue/green Tony Kart amongst 14 of his Rookie peers.  On his first ever visit to the Bundaberg circuit; he banked a very credible 8th in Race 1, 8th in Race 2 and 6th in Race 3.  His consistency earning him an overall 7th outright for the Round and a continued climb up the Series Points Table.

Round 4 of the Supercheap Auto Kart Series next heads to Rockhampton on August 15 / 16.  The host club has organised a pre-event dinner on Friday 14th.
