Hunter Does The Double At Genk

Junior Rotax driver, Henry Hunter, dominated his older rivals over the previous weekend at Genk for rounds 6 & 7 of the FKS Championship.  Henry, who is only 13, moved into the class in March and from early on Thursday morning was the one to watch.  His smooth driving technique and pace dominated open practice.

Henry qualified third in Saturdays timed qualifying session which put him in third spot on the grid for the pre-final.  After the first corner he was second and by lap 3 he was in the lead, which he held to the flag.  Saturday’s grand final was held late in the afternoon under blistering temperatures.  Henry took pole position and led from a lights to flag victory.

Sunday’s timed qualifying was overcast but warm, and again Henry dominated, taking poll position.  The grand final was also held under blistering temperatures, as Henry took the first corner in the lead but after a small mistake dropped back to third.  He kept his composure and steadily worked his way back into the lead, taking the top spot from the Championship leader, which he held to the flag.

Henry said ‘I didn’t expect to do it twice in one weekend and I’m delighted with my performance and consistency’.

The Rick Varley managed youngster also took fastest lap on Saturday and Sunday, pushing him well up in the standings for the overall Championship. ‘The kart felt fantastic all weekend’ explained Henry.  ‘I just had to keep it smooth’.
