NSW Speedway Karts To Honour Scott Darley

press release

On behalf of the Executive Committee and Members of the New South Wales Speedway Kart Club and I am writing to you to inform you of, and to invite you to, a very special event we will be conducting on the 18th October 2009.

As you are no doubt aware Scott Darley was tragically killed in a sprintcar accident in October 2008 whilst competing at Parramatta City Raceway.

During the early formation years of the NSW Speedway Kart Club, Scott and the entire Darley family were a very respected and influential part of the success of the club as it found its feet in the speedway community.

The Club has decided to hold an event to honor the memory of Scott and also recognize the contribution the Darley family have made to speedway across a number of clubs.

On October 18 at the Nepean Motorsport Complex, the NSWSKC will be hosting the inaugural Darley Day meeting . This race meeting will see all the NSWSKC regular drivers competing for a perpetual trophy named “The Scott Darley Achievement of Excellence Award” to be conducted over two 13 lap heats and a 19 lap final, these numbers representing Scott’s racing numbers.

The day is also attracting a large number of people who will race in Scott’s honor who were or have been close to Scott throughout his life. Some of these people will include his sisters Kate and Jayne, his brother Luke, crew members, and close family friends.

Also at this meeting will be a special class of speedway drivers who will to also race for Scott and they are headed up by speedway legend Dick Briton, sprintcar stars Ian Loudoun, Adrian Maher, Marty Perovich, Steve Caunt, Clayton Hart, Speedcar drivers Mark Brown, Jason Gates, NOS driver Craig Skeene and Lighting Sprint driver Andrew Johnson.

Sprintcar driver and Sprintcar Club Executive member Mark Richards who was a close personal friend of Scott’s, will be the guest starter for the day.

Also getting involved will be the PCR crash crew who will be on the infield assisting with the running of the meeting.

The charity of Scott’s choice, Cure For Kids, will be also involved in the meeting raising funds through raffles and selling of their merchandise.

As you can see this is going to be a very special day for the Darley Family, the NSW Speedway Kart Club members and speedway in general  as we honor Scott Darley, not only as a racer but more importantly a family man and close personal friend.

The Executive Committee and members of the NSWSKC would be honored if you would join us and be part of a very special day and offer some coverage of the event.

Thank you for taking the time to consider our invitation and we look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

Kindest Regards
Wayne Baines
President
