CCSKC King of the Dirt 2009

press release

Central Coast Speedway Kart Club, Sat 29th Aug 2009, Gosford Kart Speedway, Gosford Showground.

Allan Hann graciously agreed to sponsor the event once again this year, and with the weather finally in our favour (on the third attempt to run), we had a fantastic twilight meeting. Racing commenced just after 10am, with the running of the feature races after dinner under lights! The format for the day was a separate Carby session, four computer drawn heats, and the final races, with the first three past the post taking home the bragging rights for this year.

Attendance was down on last year, but with the track freshly graded, lots of spectators and a great family atmosphere, everybody reported having a fantastic relaxed meeting, with clean driving, fast multi-lane racing and lots of laps on a track that held up to the challenge with very few ruts at the end of the meeting.

In the Midget class, Jake Donaldson ended up taking the win, after James Peters and Kyle Angel dominated the heats. Bad luck struck Kyle in the feature with his engine expiring with just one lap to go.

A huge pat on the back for all the kids at this meeting, after a number of them dedicated their trophies to Kyle as a result of his terrible luck on the night. Everyone needs to take a leaf out of their books because it is with generosity of spirit like this that we can be assured of a strong future for the sport of speedway karts.

The Rookies numbers were down again and the class was run combined with the Midgets. Kris Johnson ended up winning the day after fairly even racing with Levi Moir all day/night.

In the Juniors, Reagan Angel made a clean sweep of proceedings, followed by Kyle Pollock and Luke Spinley. Some good racing in this class saw every driver finish every race too.

The Clubman Light class produced some great racing between Mitch Brien and Nathan Bailey, nose to tail every race. Nathan managed to win all the heats, but Mitch got the jump in the Final and managed to hold out Nathan for a very well earned win. Martin Sedmak took home third place and had no answer for these two.

Our Clubman Ladies class continues to be well supported, with Jade Pollock and Chantel Watts-Rhind fighting it out all day. Eventually Chantel got the win in the race that counted (the Final), with Jade runner up in second. Rebecca Powell ended up in third position and was delighted to get her first major trophy.

Clubman Heavies was another competitive class, with Grant Lahiff eventually winning the Final, after Stuart Bond and Matt Bond won most of the heats. Matt Bond did end up with second in the Final, and a great drive from Marty Watson earned him the third place trophy.

The Clubman Over 40 class had a few more competitors than last meeting, and the finishing positions changed around all day, making it hard to guess who was the favourite for the Final. Stuart Bond took out the days honours however, after just driving away from the field, out classing Craig Ford and Matt Bond respectively.

Our KT Modified class was split into Light and Heavy, and also produced some great close racing and passing all day. Phil Gibson managed to pull off the win in Lights, followed by Nicole Calleja and Michael Brett. Kierah Hawkins could have been a chance too, but DNF’d in the Final.

In the Heavies, Les Green dominated pole position all day, with Graham Keats, Luke Storey and Rod Sievwright fighting it out for 2nd, 3rd and 4th places each race.

Congratulations to our newly crowned King of the Dirt winners, and thanks again to Alan Hann of Coastal Skips for sponsoring this great event.
