Progress At Mackay Track

from Rod Lansdowne

Just a quick line to let you know what is happening to the Mackay kart club before the Queensland Closed Titles on 26th September

The track and earth works were completed last week and the members moved in to complete fencing and put back tyre barriers.  Lighting towers have been upgraded and more installed to cover the new areas of the track.  The flag points have also been upgraded for control lights for club meets, and the tower also upgraded and placed higher up to make life easier for the brilliant lap scorers.

The track has been converted to 8m wide and 765m long (was 6.5 and 560m), with the straight being extended by 70m.  A larger and flatter pitting area has been put in along the front straight, with a dam at the start of the straight to supply water throughout the drier tropical winter season.

It is anticipated that the track may be ready Saturday (12th) but will most definately be ready on Sunday the 13th September for open practice, all are invited to come and try the new track.  The first meet for the track will 26th September which is the Qld Closed Championships, and the club is hoping for a big turn out to christen the facilities.  Also hoping to have canteen facilities open for the weekends leading up to the closed with practice for the closed starting from the Wednesday.
