Sparrow's 18th Term As Secretary

Brian Sparrow was elected unopposed for his 18th term as Secretary of the Mt Gambier Karting Club at the club’s Annual General meeting last Wednesday evening.

Sparrow was applauded by all members for, once again taking on the role of Club Secretary and for continuing his role as local Track Inspector. Brian and his wife Gail have both been consistent hard working supporters for many years.

Jack and Gwen Cole announced their retirement from Committee but not from supporting the club.  Jack & Gwen joined the club over 38 years ago.  Jack, at 84, is still driving at club race days against competitors approximately half his age.  Gwen has been the club’s Licencing Secretary for approximately 5 years.  The club President thanked them both, on behalf of all members, for their club and individual member support.

Majority of Executive committee were keen for re-election. Robert Baker will continue as President for his 2nd consecutive year.  Vice President, Andrew Broome, Assistant Secretary Ernie Meznar Treasurer Edward Hodges and Competition/Licencing Secretary Sarah Barney were re-elected unopposed for an additional term. 

3 members John Dankowski, Terry Nisbet and Paul Dankowski put their hand up for election onto the committee for 2009/10 while Lynece Meznar was elected to the position of Publicity Officer. 

Other members looking forward to enjoying another year on committee are Angelo Belmonte, Damien Carracher, Nick Dankowski, John D’Onghia, Darren Mansell, David Munn, Richard Nunn, and Ian Thornley. Steve Hillyer was elected as Bar Manager for his first term in this position and Heather Devlin’s acceptance of Canteen Manager, for another term, greatly appreciated by members.

The next major competition to be held by the club will be the Junior Showdown.  This event will be held over 3 days 24th 25th & 26th of October.

Junior, Rookie & Midget drivers, aged from 7 to 16 years, from the local club, will be given the opportunity to compete against a diverse range of competitors in their respective classes.  The quality of racing is again expected to be fiercely contested with drivers entries expected from a number of states through out Australia.
