JV Does It For Charity

Despite less than favourable weather conditions; Jason Varley, better known as ‘JV’, managed to complete a total of six continuous hours around Wollongong City Raceway last Sunday in a Go Kart for the Cystic Fibrosis charity.

It was without a doubt the longest period of time Varley had spent behind the wheel of a Go Kart but as many people expected, the former multiple Australian Champion handled it with ease.

Helped by a strong preparation leading into the charity event Varley was able to get through the six hours and admitted that he felt really good after such a huge challenge.

“I prepared really strongly for this challenge and I was able to get through it without too many dramas,” Varley said. “Once I got into a rhythm out there on the track early on it was all good and my body pulled up really well. So much that I felt I could have gone longer if I needed to.”

Varley was quick to comment that apart from the mental and physical challenge it was a great honour to do something that was going to benefit less fortunate people that suffer from Cystic Fibrosis.

“Go Karting is something that I have done all my life and it’s very rewarding to be able to go out there and drive a Go Kart and raise money for charity in the process,” he enthused. “When Trent [Warwick – the Wollongong City Raceway Jets team manager] suggested that we do something to help charity I was the first to put my hand up and I am very proud that I have been able to achieve the goals we set.”

Next year the plan is to up the challenge and Varley is very much welcoming it, as he expressed. “I am up to try any challenge and the best thing about it is that we are going to be doing it to not only test ourselves and our equipment but more importantly to raise money for a worthwhile cause.”

Jason Varley and Trent Warwick would like to thank the following organisations for all their valued support:

  • Wollongong City Raceway
  • Illawarra Karts and Parts
  • Stapleton Meats in Gymea
  • Tip Top
  • Sik-FX Clothing
