Klarich Makes Triumphant Return To The Top

AKA press release

Perth youngster Jake Klarich made a triumphant return to karting with victory at the KTEQ Rentals Western Australian State Karting Championships in Karratha on the weekend.

Klarich, who has spent the past three months on the sidelines due to a broken wrist sustained while riding a BMX, claimed the title in two categories – Junior National Light and Junior Clubman.

During the qualifying races it was Klarich’s fellow Perth driver Adam Marjoram who appeared to be the pacesetter in all three of the junior categories. However, Klarich showed superior pace when it mattered most to take over the front running of the Junior Clumban class in the early running of the final before going on to claim the win.

Marjoram finished second behind Klarich in both that class and the Junior National Light category.

Local driver Eric Smith was another competitor to ‘double up’ over the weekend with victory in the Clubman Super Heavy and Leopard Heavy categories.

Throughout the qualifying races Smith was a consistent third place in the Leopard Heavy class behind Tim Barnes and Stephen Arscott, but when the front row combatants came together in turn one of the final Smith was there to take full advantage. He took out the championship ahead of Lindsay Park.

In one of the upsets of the day Simon Gwilliam got the better of karting veteran Kip Foster to take the win in the Clubman Heavy category. Gwilliam had shadowed Foster throughout the qualifying races but in the final he found his way to the front and drove away with the win.

Gwilliam also won the Rotax Heavy division ahead of Nick Cooper and Ben Hardinge.

Overall, the championships were heralded a huge success by the Karratha Club, who was hosting the Championships for the first time in it’s history, with all of the visitors to the region enjoying their stay.
