Layne Wins The Wine

Simon Layne has taken out the 2009 Jenke Vineyards Classic. The annual race at Barossa for Over 40s drivers attracted its highest number of competitors ever in the history of the event. Twenty two karters took to the track in the battle for $5000 of Jenke Premium Barossa wine.

Qualifying saw Kevin Bolland in his Tony Kart take pole position by almost half a second. Heat 1 resulted in a win for Layne with Bolland winning heat 2. Daryl Tolmer, returning to karting after a brief absence, took out heat 3.

With all points counting, the final was a close fought battle with Tolmer and Steve Blee fighting for overall second place. Layne was happy to clinch the boot full of wine by finishing 3rd. Pole sitter Bolland had a DNF in heat 1 but managed carve his way through the field from grid 12 to finish 7th in the final which gave him overall 8th on the day.
