Australian David Sera qualified fifth fastest before going on to finish second in his heat race at the SuperNationals in Las Vegas, America today.

Fifth fastest in the 80-kart field of TaG Senior meant that Sera started from third on the grid in the first round of heat races where he finished in second spot behind Andre Nicastro .

Sera has also reverted back to a more familiar IAME Leopard powerplant on board his Arrow kart rather than the Motori Seven that he was mooted to have competed with entering the event.

Western Australia karting veteran Kip Foster is also running strongly in the TaG Masters category. He set the third fastest time in qualifying.

Seven-time World Formula One Champion Michael Schumacher has qualified 27th fastest in the SuperPro (KZ2) category.

The time set by Schumacher in his Tony Kart around the 1.0km temporary circuit was just under a second behind the fastest time of the day set by Bas Lammers in his Intrepid kart.

Schumacher is joined in the 40-kart field by Sebastien Buemi (8th) and Nelson Piquet Jr. (20th). Multiple world champions, and Schumacher’s Tony Kart team-mates, David Fore’ and Marco Ardigo were fourth and 12th fastest.

Meanwhile, Australian junior drivers Macauley Jones and Jaie Robson are competing in Malaysia at the RedWhite Sangari Invitational Kart Prix in Sepang this weekend.

During practice the pair have both been running strongly inside the top ten while learning the circuit and adapting to the different karts they are competing aboard. They will qualify and begin their race campaigns today.
