Jurczak On fire On Senior Debut

AKA press release

Queenslander Ben Jurczak has made a successful transition into the senior ranks of karting by qualifying fastest in both the Clubman Light and Rotax Light categories for the 2009 Dunlop South Australian Championships at the Bolivar Raceway, just north of Adelaide today.

Throughout the year Jurczak has been the star performer in the Formula JMA (Junior Rotax) class to remain almost undefeated in every race he contested, however, today’s pace on his senior debut has taken the Respeed pilot by surprise.

“Prior to this weekend I done some testing in the Clubman kart but I hadn’t done anything with the Senior Max engine, so I’m pretty surprised to be as fast as I am,” said Jurczak.

“It is a great way to start the weekend but I know there is a long way to go yet and am just hoping to get through the first few races unscathed to set up a good starting spot for the final.

“I’ve raced here at Bolivar on a few occasions but the last time I finished on the podium was when I was in Rookies over five years ago.”

Qualifying second behind Jurczak in Rotax Light was fellow junior graduate Max Johnston while karting veteran Jason Burns will occupy the outside of the front row of the grid in Clubman Light.

Local driver Danny Errigo upstaged the more fancied Scott Simpson, who has 16 state titles to his name, in qualifying for the Clubman Super Heavy category.

Simon Hodge was another Adelaide driver who shined brightly during qualifying to set the pace in the Junior National Heavy class ahead of Albury’s Macauley Jones and Melbourne driver Jordan Nicolaou.

New South Wales drivers Daniel Baker and Jason Hryniuk filled the top two spots in Clubman Heavy ahead of local driver Paul Pittam.

In a huge field of Rookies, it was Gold Coaster Lachlan McHugh who set the pace ahead of second-generation South Australian steerer Tyler Morrison.

The opening round of heats will be contested this afternoon with racing continuing tomorrow ahead of the championship finals on Sunday.
