Huge Fields Highlight 2009 ProKart Nationals

press release

The 2009 ProKart Nationals was run and won over the weekend (November 28 and 29) at Wollongong City Raceway, near Kembla Grange on the South Coast of NSW, and it was highlighted by karting drivers, both young and old from all parts of NSW and some interstate visitors, converging to take entries well over the 150 mark.

Three of the standouts from the ProKart Nationals weekend were Quentin Slabbert, Grant Gaffa and Stefan Stankovic. Slabbert, who competed in the Midget class, took all before him in his respective class to dominate qualifying, all of his heat races, the pre final and the final. In the final Slabbert proved too strong for Nathan Rourke and Benito Montalbano. While Gaffa, who drove in the TAG Red Light class, shared a similar tail with Slabbert as he did likewise and completed what was a very successful weekend by claiming the final ahead of Craig Perry and Martin Villari. In the Rookies class Stankovic clean sweep the class and won the final after he downed Adam Hourigan and Drew Friend.

It was a double celebration for Bryce Davidson who claimed the ProKart Nationals victory spoils in both the Junior Clubman and Junior National Heavy classes. Davidson outpaced Kyle Henry-Smith and Mitchell Nielson in the Junior Clubman class final, while in the Junior Nationals Heavy class final he defeated David Jolly and Brad Jones in second and third place respectively on the podium at the completion of the weekend.

Around the 570 metre Wollongong City Raceway circuit, the ProKart Nationals for 2009 provided plenty of enthralling action all weekend long across the Junior and Senior classes that boasted strong fields of drivers in each.

Aside from Slabbert, Gaffa, Stanovic and Bryce Davidson, other successful drivers from the ProKart Nationals weekend included: Jonathon Gauci (Junior National), Reece Davidson (Junior Nationals Light), Greg Moore (TAG Over 50s), Shane Tate (TAG Red Super Heavy), Adrian Mills (TAG Restricted Light), Cameron Moss (Senior National Light), Darren Apps (Senior National Heavy), Leigh Wright (Clubman Heavy), Ian Beeraz (Clubman Light), Joe Gauci (TAG Red Heavy), Domenic Marciano (TAG Yellow) and Justin Riggs (Shifter).
