KZ2 – Titan Series Tyre Information

press release

In what will be an exciting development for the KZ2 class for the 2010 Horsepower Heaven Titan Series, drivers in just this class will have a choice to elect to use either the MG Yellow tyre or the Dunlop DDM which is the tyre being used by Pro Gearbox in the Australian CIK Championship this year.  Horsepower Heaven 2009 proudly re-introduced gearbox karting back to mainstream Australia with a bang, and organisers are looking to build on this in 2010.

Promoter Dom Albanese believes that with Horsepower Heaven Round 1 set to kick off at Geelong on 27th February, it will be good to give those drivers racing KZ2 in CIK the chance to run on the tyre they will be using in that series.  Both tyres are similar in grip level and it should be very interesting to see how they go against each other.   One may be faster, but will it be fast over the distance? We will find out.

Drivers will have the choice of which tyre they run, but they must elect which tyre they choose on their entry form and this will not be able to be changed under any circumstances.  With tyre pooling in place for Round 1 drivers will have to make the choice.  In the long term if one tyre proves more suitable then we will definitely look at making that tyre the only tyre to be used.

The DDM tyre is the harder compound CIK tyre by Dunlop as opposed to the softer DDS used in KF2 last year.  With only one set of tyres allowed in the Titan series for qualifying and racing, tyre wear will be a big issue.

KZ2 is one of the last open performance classes available to karters and this choice is just one of many the competitors will have to make.
